Year 8 Camp at Attunga

During Week 2 of Term 4, Year 8 had camp at Attunga. It was a time where students were able to reconnect and strengthen their relationships with each other and God. Read below to hear what the students had to say about it:

On Monday, Year 8 went on a two-day camp to Attunga. We did various activities, including the giant swing, ziplining, initiatives and raft building. We also enjoyed the food prepared by the camp staff and went on a slightly chaotic 'nightwalk', followed by a bonfire. The ‘nightwalk’ started in broad daylight as we trudged on the side of a mountain over to a lookout. There were many puddles of mud (some of which were so big they resembled pits) and uneven areas in the rocky path that began seeming like ‘nature's obstacles’ adding some spice to our lives. When we got to the lookout, the sun was setting and gleaming through cracks in the clouds as we received a talk from a staff member at Attunga, reminding us of God’s beauty. However, that beautiful moment didn’t last as we began heading back and the sun sank below the horizon. Not many students were aware that we needed to bring our torches and the few who did were either playing with them or shining them in their friends' eyes. When we had to weave around pits of deep mud, those few students with torches became very valued. We eventually made it back to the campfire where the students sat on logs and had some relaxing conversations until around 9 o’clock. While on camp, we rode horses which was a memorable experience. As I rode the horses in the paddock with my  friends we were able to turn them around poles and weave them in and around some crates in the relay race. During the relay race, I got my horse Bailey into a position slightly behind Mitch and Ronin when Matt's big shiny black horse Titan came flying through to win the race. Lukas J (8R)

My favourite activity at camp was the big swing. I liked riding the horses and it was more enjoyable when the lead was taken off the horse and I was in control. I felt that I had more freedom and I could move the horse by myself around the pen. My horse did not like me that much because it stopped moving during the ride. My favourite part of the Year 8 camp was the giant swing. It was my favourite part because of the adrenaline and the feeling of falling through the air. When I first fell, it felt like there were no wires connected and that I was just falling. Chloe C (8G)

One thing I really enjoyed about camp at Attunga was the giant swing. We all got the choice to go either all the way up to the top or wherever we wanted. I chose to go from the top. Some people didn’t and then they regretted it after. Emily Mc (8G)

Year 7 Tech - Design Process

Each term in Year 7 Technology, the students work through the design process to solve a problem and create a solution using skills learned in the kitchen, woodwork room, coding or engineering. At the beginning of this term, the 7 Tech C class was challenged to build a card tower with no instructions or prior knowledge. The results were very different once information was gathered on techniques to be used and structures that were stable to build with. Over the next few weeks, we will be researching types of bridges so that we can see who can build a bridge from spaghetti that holds the most weight.

CSSA Secondary State Triathlon

By Madeleine C

On Thursday 20 October, I joined with several fellow students to participate in the CSSA State Triathlon. My team consisted of Tamsin W - swimming leg , Milli W - bike leg - and I did the run leg.

It was a humid day with the sun shining bright, all teams ready and keen, running on nerves. Many of these students, like myself, were experiencing their first triathlon.

Everyone should be very proud of their efforts and results. I know my team was. Overall, we finished in 6th place! A great day was had by all. A big shout out to Mr Clarke who ran the transition duty on the day and to Miss Bignell for giving us all this great opportunity and experience as well as organising our entries. Another shout out to all of the parents/carers who assisted with transport and cheered us on. The day never would've happened without you all.

Wiburd Shield Cricket

By Caleb, Myles & Kent

On Wednesday 26 October, we had twelve NCS students who competed against Nowra Anglican College at Vic Zealand Oval, Shoalhaven Heads. Unfortunately, we didn't win but we had fun. It was great to see new people play cricket and enjoy it. It was great weather as well. We thank Mr Clarke for coaching our team and taking us there. Thanks to Ollie for scoring. Well done to Jono and Dan for top scoring. Thanks to Jono for captaining our team.
