All lessons have now commenced and most Ensembles are rehearsing in preparation for the next few events. Please note: Rookie Band and Junior Strings will begin rehearsals on Thursday, 9th March.
We have had a record number of intakes this year and the bands, orchestras and ensembles are looking very healthy and balanced across the board.
119 Year 7 students joined our Program so far this year which brings our cohort up to 272 which is a massive jump from 2022.
It's going to be an exciting year!!
We kick off the years performances with our Symphonic Band who are working on their marching repertoire in readiness for this years ANZAC Day March in April.
Mr. Muddyman will lead the group in their first march this coming Friday afternoon for the Year 7 Picnic, for parents, students and staff.
Students will meet Mr. Muddyman in the Music centre at 4:30pm on Friday and march through the college grounds to the Year 7 outside area. We look forward to hearing the new pieces.
This week we present the first of our 'lunchtime concert' series.
This Thursday we hosted The Vermont Stage Band, lead by Mr. McGuffie.
The band played a selection of tunes which will feature as part of their repertoire for the upcoming Autumn Concert in May.
This Fridays event will feature Contemporary Trio 'Sandwich', made up of Levi Johnson (guitar, vocals), Tiarne Grummisch (drums), and Henry Carse (bass).
They will perform some heavy hitting cover versions of some 90's classics for the students at lunchtime.
The performances will all take place outside the music centre.
Hopefully, the sun shines brightly on both events.
The Instrumental Music team at Vermont Secondary College is a dedicated, passionate and experienced group of expert teachers who are very excited to work with students and the college community to give our kids a fun, creative and interactive experience in music tuition.
We pride ourselves on providing high quality content within an inclusive, positive and safe space for all students. We have worked hard to keep our fees low and our enthusiasm high throughout the year and we are dedicated to ensuring that Instrumental Music education is accessible to everyone in our college community.
While some instrument groups are currently full up, there are still places in our program for Brass, Woodwind and Voice students.

Vermont Voices have been working hard over the past few weeks learning new repertoire in preparation for the upcoming Autumn Concert; we are exploring a South African Gospel Freedom is Coming and popular operatic aria and jazz standard Summertime from the George Gershwin opera Porgy and Bess.
Singing in a choir provides an excellent opportunity for students to forge social bonds, build a strong sense of community, and develop self-confidence and self-expression as we work as a team to achieve a goal. In addition, singing has been shown to improve our sense of happiness and well-being, while also exercising our mind and body as we improve our breathing, posture, and muscle tension.
There is always room for more members to join Vermont Voices, so if you are interested in joining the choir, please feel free to reach out to Mr Nguyen for more information. We rehearse Tuesdays after school from 3:15PM to 4:15PM. I am excited to show off the choir’s progress at our next performance in Term 2 at the Autumn Concert on Thursday 11 May.
Happy music-making,
Mr Lam Nguyen
