Year 7 Reading

All Year 7’s will be reading their class novel “Parvana” and will have borrowed further reading materials from the library during their English classes.

Research shows that reading assists with

· Increases your vocabulary and comprehension.

· Empowers you to empathize with other people.

· Aids in sleep readiness.

· Reduces stress.

· Lowers blood pressure and heart rate.

· Fights depression symptoms.

· Prevents cognitive decline as you age.

Students can borrow up to 8 physical items at a time from our school library. You can also access our VSC e book and audio book library at https://vsclibrary.wheelers.co/ or from a browser, go to 

Compass> Star icon>Library ebook and audio books link

Sign in using your school email and password and you will be able to choose from a wide selection of 'e' and audio books.

Check out 'Goodreads' for what to read. Make sure to use the

“Young adult” sections. Search “Goodreads” or go to https://www.goodreads.com/

You do not have to sign in or join up to the site.

Scroll down page to “Search and Browse” section or further down to “Goodreads Choice Awards: the best books for 2022”. This will give you hundreds of options of books to choose from.

Check if the book is available in our library through Destiny Quest (from a browser go to Compass> Star Icon > Library – Destiny Quest> Log in with your student code and password)

Check your local library.

 

'Goodreads', will allow students to browse fiction and non fiction across many subject and genres without having to log in.

Parents, please note 'Goodreads' is a site for all ages so you can browse for books for your younger children as well.

Students can scroll down the 'Goodreads' home page a little further and check out reader voted best book lists for 2022.
