PRIMARY HOUSE SWIMMING CARNIVAL

BY SHANE DE KRETSER (PRIMARY SPORTS CO-ORDINATOR)

Last Monday, primary students from Years 1 to Year 6 headed to Belgrave Outdoor Pool to participate in the Primary House Swimming Carnival.

The sun was shining, tunes were playing, and there was a great atmosphere about the day as students participated in some healthy competition between their sport houses, and enjoyed being in the pool.

Congratulations to Wattle house who won overall, and well done to the many talented swimmers who have been chosen to represent our school in the CSEN swimming carnival in a few weeks time. A special mention to all the staff who helped out on the day, as well as the many parents who came to cheer their children on - thanks for being a part of it!

We would also like to congratulate the following students who were awarded age group champion for the most points individually gained in their age group:

U9 Boys - Winston G

U9 Girls - Tala B

U10 Boys - Henry S

U10 Girls - Edith P

U11 Boys - Henry W

WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING IN VCE VM

BY GLENN BOOTH (VCE VM & VET TEACHER)

Our first ever Year 11 VCE VM (vocational major) class has had an amazing start to the year. From working together to complete challenges, to organising and running activities for our Year 9 students, finding out about our HPV (human powered vehicles) which they will be using to compete in races against other schools in the Victorian series and recently being able to go to Drop Bear escape rooms in Pakenham.

Students were given some escape room board game challenges to prepare them for the real physical escape room which they were able to successfully complete as a team. Students will then begin to develop their own escape room concepts to create an online escape where the best idea will be chosen to develop and build into our very own escape room at school.

This is a great way to bring practical learning to life for our students and I am so excited to see it get underway.

OFF TO A GREAT START - VET HOSPITALITY

BY GLENN BOOTH (VCE VM & VET TEACHER)

Students in our VET Hospitality class have had an amazing start to the year creating appetisers and beginning to plan for upcoming events that they will be catering for throughout the year.

Our students have really hit the ground running, continuing on from a great success of winning the inter school culinary competition last year.

Check out this clip by the organisers that showcases our students so well!

Students are continuing to develop and build on their skills and knowledge throughout their Certificate II in Kitchen Operations which is a two year course that focuses on preparing students to be able to enter a commercial kitchen and continue their training as a Chef.

YEAR 10 CAREERS - MOCK INTERVIEWS

BY RACHEL WHITWORTH  (CAREERS ADVISOR)

On Tuesday our Year 10 students took part in the Mock Interviews as part of their World of Work Unit in English.  Prepared with their resume and cover letter for a casual job, they arrived looking well-presented and ready for the interview experience.

Some faced their fears and courageously stepped up to meeting and talking with someone they had never met before.

Others drew on their current work experience and confidence to answer the interviewer’s questions.  ALL our students did a fantastic job and hopefully this experience has given them more confidence for any future interviews they have.  We are also very grateful to our interviewers who volunteered their time for this worthwhile event.
