1A

It has been an exciting start to Term One for 1A. Learners explored recount writing as they deepened their understanding of how to utilise the structure (beginning, middle, and ending) to add details to main events. Learners recounted experiences such as tunnel ball, the water safety program, and their swimming lessons at ‘Swim World’.

Swimmers have been enjoying lessons on how to safely rescue someone with water safety equipment and learning fundamental swimming skills. It’s been fantastic to see the enjoyment on their faces!

Meanwhile, students at school, have been learning about the dangers of different bodies of waters and creating water safety equipment prototypes!

As Mathematicians, learners explored the many ways that you can represent numbers. They applied the ‘tens frame’ strategy to investigate the different ways you can represent the same number!

Learners shared their thinking of how they subitise!! (glance at a number without counting):

Saaral – “There are 2 empty boxes, so 10 -2 is 8.”
Wilson - “I saw 2 rows of 4. 4 + 4 = 8.”
Eric - “I counted by 2s and saw 2 empty squares, so I knew there 8 counters.”
Thenura -  “I counted by 2s. 2, 4, 6. Then I add 1 which is 7 and I added another 1 which is 8.”Kiyaan - “A full 10s frame is always 10. I saw 2 empty spots, so 10-2 = 8.”
