Student Leadership

College Captains- visit to Woodlands Primary School

On the 28th of February College Captain Chiara Ferra and Vice College Captain Amelia Dimech visited Woodlands Primary School’s Young Leaders Program.

We had the amazing opportunity to create a workshop to run with the student leaders in order to develop their leadership skills. In this workshop, there was a series of active games, activities and case studies.

Behind all these activities, there were meaningful lessons to be learnt, these included teamwork, communication, collaboration, problem-solving, active listening and observation. These are all fundamental skills that are essential for becoming a good leader.

Each and every one of the student leaders who participated in the workshop was eager to learn and engage. It was incredibly rewarding to witness their growth and development throughout the workshop, as they took on challenges and responsibilities with confidence and enthusiasm. Seeing them inspire and motivate their peers was truly inspiring, and it reminded us that each of them has the potential to become great leaders themselves one day. At the end of our session, we had a Q&A session in which we were asked a variety of questions which showed us that we have a bright future of youth who are passionate about student leadership.

In addition to building their leadership skills, the workshop also provided an opportunity to build strong relationships with other student leaders in our school community. We were able to connect with like-minded individuals who shared our passion for making a positive impact. This sense of community and collaboration was invaluable in helping us to achieve our goals as College Captains and will continue to be an important part of our leadership journeys in the future.

This experience not only showed us the strong student leadership team Woodlands has created but why we became leaders in the first place. We had the opportunity to be mentors for these student leaders and pass down our leadership knowledge, skills and tips. It was an amazing experience meeting all the bright minds at Woodlands and we would love to continue this workshop in the near future.

Trip to Aotearoa

My name is Jenaya Bartlett and I’m a proud Wiradjuri woman, also your 2023 College Vice Captain.

On February the 3rd I flew to Auckland for a life changing cultural exchange with some of the first nations Djirri Djirris and some of the Māori community youth, adults, and leaders.

Before heading up to the North Island we spent the first day getting to know each other and exploring Auckland, from there we travelled straight up North to Waitangi. In Waitangi we celebrated the treaty of Waitangi Celebrations at Paihia in the Bay of Islands.

We based ourselves at 4 different Marae’s (Māori Gathering Place) across the North Island. The rest of the week we stayed exploring historical sites like the Hokianga, Ruapekaeka, Tāne Mahuta, Whangerei Falls and the very top of the North Island, Cape Te Reinga.

Although we enjoyed our time traveling and viewing all the amazing historical sites, we also had deep conversations around physical challenges and self-realisation.

My favourite part of the trip was seeing how well the two cultures bonded together, it was really something to experience and I’m so grateful I got the opportunity to experience as much as I did, it really was a one in a lifetime opportunity.
