Term 1 settling in

It’s been wonderful to see how well students have settled in across the college in the first two weeks of term. From Plenty Kids through to the Senior School, students have adapted quickly to being back at school which has made for a seamless start for the majority.

Our new Prep students have settled smoothly into new routines and processes. They are enjoying the new features of their outdoor play space, as well as their specialist classes. The pastoral home visits on Wednesdays have started well and students are looking forward to teachers coming to visit them throughout the term.

Across primary, there have been 80 new students (including the Preps!) and we are pleased to welcome so many new students and families. Last night’s Meet the Teacher night went really well and we appreciate parents coming out to meet their child’s teacher.

In secondary, over 50 new students have commenced at the college. Year 7’s have settled into their homegroups well and are adapting to their new environment smoothly. They were very excited to receive their Surface Pro devices from our IT team and are preparing for their upcoming camp, which will provide a great bonding opportunity for the cohort. The Middle School Information Night on Tuesday provided a great forum to share information relevant to Years 7 to 9 and allow parents to meet homegroup teachers and other parents. Next Tuesday’s Senior School Information Night will cover a variety of relevant topics for Years 10 to 12 and parents are encouraged to attend.

Facility upgrades and additions

There have been some exciting works around the campus with our amazing maintenance team working hard through the summer holidays on these upgrades and additions.

Some of these additions have been possible using the funds raised from the Colour Explosion Fun Run, including:

  • A new cubby house in Plenty Kids, which the students are loving and very actively using their imaginations in their play. A mud pit with a kitchen was added last year.
  • The Early Years playground has a new cubby house town with 4 cubby houses, including a General store, Vet, Fire Station and PVCC school house.
  • In the Junior school play area, 2 Gaga Pits have been added next to the basketball courts and will soon be available for use. These Octagon shaped pits are designed for a popular ball game that students often play at school camps.

In other parts of the college, cricket nets have been constructed at the back of the main oval and are close to completion.

Finally, our dated staff room and adjacent food technology classroom have received a welcomed upgrade and will serve as a multipurpose space that will also be used for college community events and functions. This complements the recent upgrades to the library hub and foyer, as well as adjoining outdoor works that have improved the secondary walkways, providing modern and usable spaces amongst our beautiful natural environment.

Whittlesea Crossing Supervisor Award 2022

The PVCC community congratulates our valued Crossing Supervisor Ken Dalton for receiving the Whittlesea Crossing Supervisor Award for 2022. This prestigious award was awarded to Ken at a Council Event where he also received a voucher and certificate as appreciation for his efforts and hard work.

Ken started his journey at PVCC in the middle of 2014 after retiring a 30-year occupation at TNT. He finds the speeding traffic and yelling motorists challenging at times, but it never weighs up against the joy he finds in the relationships with students and their families. He prides himself in knowing over 100 student names and assisting different generations finishing at PVCC. Ken was offered another crossing supervisor position close to home three years ago and refused the offer because, as Ken said: “I could never leave this College”.

We are very proud of and grateful for Ken and we are looking forward to a beautiful partnership for many years to come.
