Some Updates from the Principal

Uniform Updates

Socks

Just a reminder that the sock colour was rationalised last year. In summary, sock colours are:

  • With shorts or pants/trousers - plain grey
  • With summer dress - plain white
  • With winter skirt or tunic - plain navy
  • With sports uniform - plain white or printed PVCC logo only

Students may wear the old sock uniform colours (blue marle walk socks or black socks with shorts or trousers) for the first semester as a change-over/grace period to give families the chance to update them.

Wet-weather jacket

After a couple of years of grace period, the old-style navy and green wet weather jacket will no longer be acceptable as part of our uniform after 2023. The soft shell jacket will become the only option.

Car Park

The first week is always a challenge with so many new parents wanting to be parked before their children are released. I am so proud of the way parents have been so gracious to each other even when the traffic is moving so slowly. It will get better as we all improve our timing.

While there is nothing we can do about the slow entry onto Yan Yean Road from about 3:35pm, letting people in, reduces the pain for all.

I still smile when I think of the parent of upper primary and lower secondary students who trained her children to arrive in the carpark at 3:45pm. She drove in, stopped for a minute or two for the kids to get in and drove out with little traffic slowing her down. She was only on campus for five minutes.

Sad/Happy News

Rebecca Matthews, our highly respected and loved Head of Primary, will be leaving us in the middle of the term. Bec has been offered a fantastic job in the corporate world that will stretch her, but also use her many talents. She is handing over the reins to a very competent leadership team in the primary and we are currently seeking a replacement for her role. We are so sad to see her go but are very happy for her to have this opportunity.

Peter Bain, our Business Manager, has been headhunted by a multicampus school. He has brought so much to our college in the time he has been with us but moves on to bigger challenges that will use his considerable talents. We are currently advertising for his successor. Another instance of it being sad is to see him go, but happy for his new school, and knowing he will be continuing to serve God in Christian education.

It is not a wonderful way to spend the Christmas break knowing that you may lose two senior leaders early in the next year. Both decisions were not made quickly and involved much soul-searching. Although there is significant pain in this change (I would still love them to change their minds), I am not discouraged. I strongly believe that they have finished the task that God asked of them at Plenty Valley and the next leaders will continue to move the college forward as God intended.
