Principal's Report

Welcome Back

It was fantastic to see the enthusiasm of our students last Wednesday when they returned to school for the on-site learning program. The priority for our staff at the moment is the wellbeing of our students ensuring that they are attending school, settling back into routines and socialising appropriately with their peers. Please know that we are doing everything possible at school to ensure that engagement in learning is foremost in our minds.

Thank you to all family members who assisted with home learning over the past few weeks. I know how challenging it can be juggling the responsibility of work with home schooling your children and other commitments. Please know how grateful we are for this collaboration. We couldn’t do it without you.

One of the most heart-breaking aspects of lockdowns have been the number of school events that have been either postponed or cancelled altogether. This recently affected an Upper Primary camp that has now been re-scheduled. We are awaiting the updated health advice next week that we hope will permit school events such as the upcoming Year 11 Presentation Ball to proceed.

Parent Opinion Survey

WE WANT OUR PARENTS/CAREGIVERS/GUARDIANS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!

Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents/caregivers/guardians think of our school. The Parent/Caregiver Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training. It is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, student engagement and experiences of remote and flexible learning. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies. All parents/carers will be invited to participate in this year’s survey. All responses to the survey are anonymous. This year, the Parent/Caregiver Opinion Survey commenced on  Monday the19th of July and continues through to Sunday the 22nd of August.

The survey is being conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the fieldwork period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online survey is available in a range of languages other than English. These include: Arabic, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Chin (Hakha), Hindi, Japanese, Somali, Turkish, Punjabi and Greek.

The survey has been sent to you via Compass. Please let us know if you didn’t receive this survey.

School Council Report

School Council Meeting was held at 7:00pm on Monday 26th July 2021 via Webex in which the following matters were discussed:

School Council Membership

Cath Sloley has replaced Colin Simpson on School Council.

Remote and Flexible Learning Update

Discussion was held regarding the process for remote and flexible learning with the announcement of Lockdown 5.0. Week one criteria for students to be considered for onsite learning were similar to the last lockdown - students of essential workers and vulnerable students. Staff volunteered to work onsite. The extension of the lockdown consisted of additional criteria – students who have difficulty learning from home. Staff were rostered onsite as required. Student numbers onsite increased as the lockdown continued. Remote learning continued to be provided via Compass and hard copy upon request. Daily class Webex catch ups were scheduled and class learning provided. Specialist grids were also available.

Concord School Building Works

Planning meetings continue with works predicted to begin in April 2022. Design plans were shared for both the Bundoora and  Watsonia Campuses.

Uniform

Discussion was held regarding the decline in uniform conformity and ways in which this can be improved.

Next School Council Meeting: Monday 30th August 2021 @ 7pm

Nicolas is  very deserving recipient of this award. His attendance at school is outstanding and he always completes set tasks to the best of his ability and within the set timeframe without ever causing a fuss.

Through remote and flexible learning Nicolas’ engagement remained at this high level with him participating in group discussions and completing all of his daily tasks.

Nicolas is a good friend to all in the class, helping others whenever he can.  He also has many friends across the section.

In class, Nicolas is always motivated and focused and is an asset to the class.
