Enter the Wellbeing Zone

Welcome to the Wellbeing Zone. When you enter the zone, you will find a wealth of information about all the things happening in the Wellbeing space at Sunshine Heights PS as well as strategies, articles, book recommendations and events that will help build our dream and culture of Wellbeing throughout our school community, inside and outside of school, so that we can sail together through a universe of possibilities with all the emotional and social skills we need to thrive.

The Sunny Heights Sensory Wall

In exciting news, we were lucky enough to be successful with a Seddon Community Bank grant application for $500. This will be used to build Sunny Height's very first sensory wall. Oh yeah!

Stay tuned for more details as we plan, design and build it, but for now... relish in an incoming mood and inspiration board!

Resilient Youth - 10 Ways to Get Through Tough Times

There's no denying we are living in tough times these days! Which is what makes the work of Resilient Youth even more important. They are building new resources all of the time to respond to these crazy times we live in and one of their latest resources is '10 Ways to Get Through Tough Times'. It's a really great list for both children and adults and presents some great talking points on strategies for getting through challenges.

The Sunny Heights ZINE Club - ONSITE!

What an awesome week myself and Kylie had with our young zine makers with our second sessions of zine club (first ones onsite, woohoo!). Tuesday lunch time was for the P-2 students and Thursday lunch time was for the 3-6 students. We did meditations, talked about our emotions and wellbeing, and brainstormed some truly spectacular ideas for the zines we'll be making with Sticky Institute in Weeks 5 & 6. What an exceptional bunch of zine makers, thinkers, creatives and emotionally intelligent young people!

Next week, in Week 5, Sticky Institute will be working with the P-2 students on Tuesday and Thursday lunch time to help them bring their ideas to life in the form of a zine.

The following week, in Week 6, Sticky Institute will return to do the same with the Grade 3-6 students on Tuesday and Thursday lunch times.

Stay tuned for launch details and zine sales, as we raise money for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation; our way of paying it forward (an important part of Wellbeing!)

The Social Workers of Sunny Heights

In exciting news, the Wellbeing Warriors of Sunshine Heights are expanding, and at the end of August, we will have two social work students - Shayla & Zafifah - join us for their third year placement. They will be with us from the end of August until the end of November and will run small focus groups and individual sessions, as well as help build our Wellbeing DREAM in many other ways! We will be meeting on the 23rd of August to dream BIG and plan some exciting things in the Wellbeing space. Watch this space for further updates and introductions!

Body Kind Ambassadors.

We are really excited to be developing Sunshine Heights Primary School as a Body Kind school. Body Kind is a Butterfly Foundation initiative that works to support young people's body image. Finding ways to like, accept, love or even feel positive about your body can be challenging for many young people, but we can all try to be a little kinder.

As part of this great initiative, we asked our Grade 6 students to express their interest in becoming Body Kind ambassadors for Sunshine Heights PS. We were overwhelmed by their interest and response. Those students who expressed interest will be attending a virtual PD with the Butterfly Foundation on Tuesday 10th August. This live interactive workshop is designed to help these young people actively plan and lead Body Kind activities in our school.  They aim to educate, empower young people to champion being Body Kind at school and beyond!

Stay tuned to hear more about the Body Kind ideas they generate after the workshop.
