FAITH MATTERS

MS ALISON WRIGHT - DIRECTOR OF MISSION

As we continue to live in our new reality of lockdowns and restrictions, we are continually reminded to be patient and do the right thing for the sake of others - our neighbours.

The beautiful piece of scripture from Mark says “love your neighbour as yourself. There is no greater commandment than this”. We have seen great patience and acceptance of what our days and weeks look like amid the frustrations of those who continue to challenge the rules and risk harming others.

It has saddened my heart this week, to see the unfolding hostility in Afghanistan. Tens of thousands of Afghan families are attempting to escape the fighting between the insurgents and the Afghan military. Hundreds have flooded Kabul’s airport and a growing mass are crossing the border into neighbouring countries. They currently live in fear of what a return to Taliban control after twenty years may mean to them and their livelihood. We know women and children are at significant risk.

“Love your neighbour as yourself…”

We are called to pray for Afghanistan and all those impacted by the violence, to pray for women and children whose rights are being abused and ignored. Pray for Christians and ethnic minorities who are being singled out and targeted. Pray for hope, mercy, justice, and healing in Afghanistan.

Our school community has again been so very generous with donating items and money to the St Vinnies Winter appeal. The school Chapel is housing the donations, ready to be taken to our local representatives to distribute to people in need in our local community.

We are hoping to hand these donations over at one of the Parish masses very soon.

The Faith and Mission Committee have welcomed many students through the doors to the MK Wardrobe. Students have browsed through clothes, tried some on and have made “purchases” (small donations towards St Vinnies). Currently the MK Wardrobe is opened one lunchtime a week!
