Winter Sports

The QGSSSA Executive has confirmed that this weekend’s Round 6 of QGSSSA Winter Fixtures will remain an abandoned round and we will prepare for a return to fixtures for Round 7. Again, we ask that girls who have committed to these sports please attend both training sessions and games or notify Ms Barnes and your sport’s coordinator of any reason for non-attendance. Round 7 fixtures are away against Somerville House. A full round draw will be released early in Week 7 on the College app.

Athletics

A revised training squad has been posted on the app and in Daily Notices due to a few errors in the first version. The training squad document identifies the events girls did really well in at Inter-House Athletics and thus specific events we need the girls to train for. Any Clayfield girls can still come along to training as they may not have been able to compete in particular events at the carnival or were absent on the day.

The Athletics Team will be named in Week 9 based on inter-house carnival results and the more current training results. From Week 7, times, distances and heights will be recorded at training so girls have an idea of how they are tracking and to give the coaching team information leading up to team selection. As girls can only compete in 3 individual events and a relay at QG, what events girls are placed in needs to be very strategic, as we need the best overall team for good team performance.

Training continues on Monday afternoons back at Bowden Park and Wednesday and Friday mornings here at the College. Please where possible, we would like all squad members available on Monday afternoons to commence team selection. From Week 7, girls will record times, distance and heights for each event so we can compile our most competitive team for QG on Thursday 16 September. Full details of training can be found on the College app.

Term 4 Sports

Badminton trials were held this week and a number of girls were unable to attend. As such, there will be one final trials session on Monday morning in the College Assembly Hall. This trial is ONLY for girls who could not attend in Week 6. Team training will then commence as of Tuesday morning in the PE centre for all Yr 7 – 9 girls. A full training schedule can be found on the College App from Friday 20 August and on the Croc Board.

Junior softball trials will be held in Week 7 on Tuesday afternoon from 3:30 pm – 5:00 pm on the College oval. All girls wishing to participate must attend this session. Please contact Ms Barnes and Jo Rogers if you cannot make this session. Full training details will then be released from Wednesday 25 August on the College app and on the Croc Board.

QG is introducing AFL into the sporting program and in Term 4 there will be a number of introductory sessions run in Weeks 2 and 3 and then a gala day where games will be played, full details to come. The sign-up interest sheet is on the Croc Board and will be taken down at the end of Week 7. Any girls interested please ensure you sign-up in Week 7. Please see Ms Barnes if you want further details.

Volleyball Academy - Whole Year Program

The Clayfield Volleyball Academy continues every Monday from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm in the PE Centre. Unfortunately, due to restrictions, the last two weeks were missed and will now be rescheduled over the coming weeks. Further details of these rescheduled sessions will be advised soon.

Please see Ms Barnes if you are keen to join to collect the paperwork. Any girls who choose to leave the program MUST send an email to confirm this or payments will still be added to your College fees.

Australian Volleyball has recently sent us information regarding the Talent Identification trials that are due to be held later this month. Please see the flyer below with full details or on the College app.

Metropolitan North Trials

Metropolitan North has released a revised schedule for the remainder of 2021.

Please note that the dates listed are for the Met North trial, so Independent North trials will be in the weeks leading up to the trial. Please see Ms Barnes if you are interested in attending any of the events to discuss your suitability and the process for trailing. Note that these trials are for experienced players, not those wishing to try a sport.

Elite Sporting Program - Sports Specialist Series

The ESP Sports Series 2 finally commenced this week with Frith Hudson-Graham from Girls Trek Australia. Frith’s session commenced by exploring success through a discussion on the recent Olympics games and moved to explore the concept of fear and how it can inhibit performance. The girls were then walked through a process of examining one of their fears and a simple strategy that can be used, whether in the gym, on the blocks or at home in their own space. Hopefully, the girls now have another tool in their performance repertoire to assist with enhancing performance. The next session is on Monday morning with past Olympian and Australian Team flag bearer, Mark Knowles.

Week 7

  • Monday 23 August: Mark Knowles - Hockey Australia’s National Athlete Pathway Program (NAPP) Technical Lead.

Week 8

  • Wednesday 1 September: Sam Armstrong – Peak Nutrition

Term 4 - Week 2

  • Wednesday 13 October: Natasha Anderson – Girls with Grit
