Principal's Report

Dear Parents, Families and Community members,

Week 7 of Term 3 and another week of Remote Learning 'done and dusted'!

We continue to work through the challenges of being in Lockdown, out of routine and potentially disconnected from family, friends and colleagues and I would like acknowledge the great efforts of our school community in relation to this.

It has been fantastic to see so many students embracing and engaging with daily check-ins, learning programs, small group learning sessions, Specialist programs and clubs, as well as sharing their learning by uploading to Google Classroom or Seesaw. New Learning Menus will be shared Sunday afternoon and we again encourage all students to demonstrate our School Value of COMMITTMENT by attempting as much of the planned learning as possible and seeking support from a parent, carer or Home Group teacher when they need it.

I'd also like to bring your attention to the new addition to the Armstrong Creek School newsletter; Auslan Extra!  This will include a link to an Auslan video, in the form of a YouTube clip and/or associated resources each fortnight. Our super talented, creative and funny (he told me to say that...) Auslan teacher Andrew has put a lot of effort into getting this up and running and is something I'm sure the whole family can enjoy together.

Book Week

This week we celebrated book week with a range of activites and events across the week. On Wednesday evening many students and families participated in the ACS Bedtime Story (brilliantly read over Google Meet by the wonderful Lisa Murphy) and today we finished it off with a dress up day.

Book week brings a focus to the importance of reading in our lives and the enjoyment that books can give us all.

It was great to see students, families and staff both at home and school, dressing up as characters from their favourite books. Take a look at some of our amazing costumes!

We also asked our students to send in some photos of their 'weird, whacky & whimsical' reading positions.

Division Netball

On August the 17th the ACS mixed team finally went to Kardinia Park for the Division Netball competition.

There were 10 players on the team, Sienna, April, Nash, Parker, Indy, Emmi, Cadeyn, Cooper, Lincoln and Declan. Only 7 players were on the court at a time so we had 3 substitutes. Every game we swapped at half time.

There were 5 games that went for 20 minutes with 20 minute breaks in between games. We won 1 game, we had 2 that were a very close call and almost a draw, but it doesn’t matter about winning because at the end of the day it’s all about having fun!!

The day was fun and tiring but we all got better as a team throughout the day learning heaps of new skills. COVID tried to stop us but Arron didn’t give up and rescheduled (about 3 times) but we got there in the end and played all of our games.

Overall we had a great time playing and we couldn’t be more happy that we played our best.

GAWS Donation

Two of our school captains, Archie and Olivia presented Cara from Geelong Animal Welfare Society (GAWS) with a range of Kong chew and play toys, bought by ACS with our fundraising money.

These durable toys will be used by lost and stray dogs that are housed at GAWS. They will provide lasting fun and stimulation for many dogs that are waiting for their forever homes. GAWS are always looking for donations to assist with the welfare of many animals. If you would like to further assist GAWS, below is a list of frequently used items:

  • New or in good condition towels and blankets
  • Enrichment items for the shelter animals – kongs, large tug toys, small scratching posts and treats eg: pigs ears, dental chews, schmackos etc.
  • Dog and cat food (wet & dry). Please consider brands that provide meat as its first ingredient, any low quality food may upset tummies.
  • Small cat beds & igloos
  • Flat bed sheets (no elastic)

Well done ACS community!

Parent Teacher Interviews

Coming up in Week 8, on Wednesday the 1st of September we will be hosting our Term 3 parent teacher student learning conferences.

These will take place between 3:30 and 7:30 with 10 minute timeslots for each child.

These meetings are a great opportunity to meet with your child's homegroup teacher to discuss and celebrate their learning progress to date as well as to consider future learning goals.

Some important things to note:

* Due to current and very unpredictable circumstances these conferences will be held virtually via Google Meet

* Students who have had an SSG do NOT have a parent/teacher conference

* Bookings will open on Monday 16th and close on Wednesday the 25th - keep an eye out on Compass and your email for steps on how to book a time
