Science Week - August 16-20

Science Week is back!  Students will have the opportunity to participate and register for specific online activities, webinars and interactives across an entire week.

Please feel free to register and participate in as many as you like. We would love to be able to see you enjoying Science Week, so if you are creating, participating or completing an activity, take a photo and send it through to Mrs Beckwith or your science teacher.

Monday 16th – Friday 20th: TRIVIA

Beginning Monday, we will be emailing all students each day with a link to answer 5 trivia questions. The student with the highest number of trivia questions correct for the week will win a prize.

Tuesday 17th: SCINEMA

At lunchtime on Tuesday in the lecture theatre, we will be showing a series of science-related short films.

Thursday 19th: THE AMAZING RACE

  • We are asking that a minimum of one team (one pair) from each tutor group register to participate in the race. If more than two students express interest in a tutor group, they may register - they will need a partner as all teams should be pairs.
  • The race will be a series of fun tasks to complete at various places around the school during lunchtime. Yes, lots of food activities!
  • Students will be given a set of clues at each station as to the location of the next task.

At any point during the week: LOLLY TOWER

  • We are going to provide each tutor group with a bag containing a specific number of lollies, gloves and toothpicks.
  • Students are to try to construct the tallest/largest structure with the lollies & toothpicks they have.
  • If a student or yourself could please provide a photo (emailed to either Mrs Kimberley Clayton or myself), the tutor group with the tallest structure will all receive a prize.

The Junior School students will also be participating in the Lolly tower challenge, the Amazing Race challenge (Years 4-6) and the ‘Scinema’ experience under the guidance of Mrs Geyer.

You can access all sorts of information about the activities and other online events via the ASTRA Science Week page - https://astra.girton.vic.edu.au/homepage/19728

Have a really fun Science week!

Science and 8 Jones

In Science 8 Jones has been learning about the body systems, specifically, the circulatory, respiratory, and digestive systems. As part of this unit, we had the opportunity to complete a heart and squid dissection. It was great to be to back at school in person and to be able to do these practicals again!

Year 9 Science

The Year 9 Science students were thrilled to be back in the lab working on practical activities after the recent lockdown. Here you can see some scientists experimenting to understand the Law of Conservation of Mass.
