Principal's Update

Great weather and the return of school sport has provided a busy week, with students participating in a range of sporting and extra-curricular activities.

As students prepare for the Jump Rope for Heart Jump Off, we are also encouraging families to register to raise funds for the Heart Foundation.  More information can be found on the Jump Rope for Heart page.

Last Thursday students in 5/6 enjoyed a great day of skiing and snowboarding, in perfect conditions.  Many thanks again to our staff for their organisation and to all our volunteers for their assistance in making this program possible.

Last Friday, students in Prep, 1/2 and 2/3 came together to produce a musical performance based on their learning from this term.  Our sincere thanks to Emily for providing our students with this experience and to all staff for their support.  A video of the performance has been shared with students’ families on Compass.

Friday afternoon was also filled with great excitement when the final of the ‘3-6 House Olympics’ dodgeball competition was held.  A play-off between Mitta Red and the teachers saw Mitta Red take out the win of the day. This week, a new round of competition will begin, this time in netball.  Many thanks to Joel and the 3/4 class for their organisation.

On Monday, students in Prep – 4/5 participated in the first of a series of tennis clinics.  Supported by Tennis Australia, these 45-minute clinics are being delivered by local coach Geoff Hollow.  The clinics will be held each Monday, with all classes participating in six sessions.

  1. Monday’s 5/6 tree planting event provided a great learning opportunity for all.  In addition to planting 390 trees, students learned about the importance of revegetation to protect the land and waterways.  During the day, students learned about different species of native trees and shrubs and the role they would play in preventing erosion and attracting insects, birds and other native animals, to create a healthy ecosystem.  A big thank you to the Bonhote family for facilitating this opportunity and to all staff for their organisation and assistance on the day.

This year’s Kangaroo Hoppet will be run as a virtual event and, as in 2020, participants will be able to complete their chosen activity over a 42km, 21km or 7km route.  As a special school’s offer, we will be providing our students the opportunity to participate in a mini–Virtual Hoppet at school, by completing laps of the pondage.  This will replace our normal Walkathon and will be held next Friday, the 27th August, from 2-3pm.  An email with information regarding this event has been sent to all families. This event needs to be approved on Compass.  If you are able to assist with a check-point, or would like to join in the walk with your child, please message your child’s teacher or contact the office.
