Year 4 Show Don't Tell

Miss Daws

This week, we have been focusing on different techniques writers use to ‘show’ how a character is feeling. A character's feelings could be portrayed through action, description, questions or dialogue. As a class, we identified how we were currently feeling about lockdown and then used a technique to ‘show’ the reader that particular emotion through a sentence. Can you guess how we are feeling?

Grace: a big smile on my face watching her blow out the candles and waiting for the cake to be cut.Nicholas: I taste my fresh breath produced from my lung. I focus on my heartbeat. I take 10 breaths. I lay down the table and wish everything will be alright.Thomas N: As I watched the lions thrash the kangaroos, not even that could make me forget about what happened today.Luca: I lied in bed as my legs went to sleep and my body stuck.
Georgia: I slam the table, I can't do this anymore. I just need to get out of the house, being in lockdown, I can't do it.Thomas N: Yawning every  second trying to pick myself up. I fell on my bed and slept the rest of the night having nightmares about what COVID had done to this world.Cleo: As I heard the sad corona news, my heart melted with sadness and tears were dripping down my face.Dean: As I watched the outside world from the inside, I felt an emotion that was too strong to handle. I felt like I have been waiting a whole millennium just to see the world suffer just from this one THING! I wish I could go on the playground. Looking at you Australian Government.
