Home Learning and Readers

By Marta Cummings

My children are fortunate to have dedicated teachers teaching them in a very similar ‘live lesson’ style to St Joseph’s Primary School, however, I was finding it hard at the end of the day to motivate my Prep with reading her reader. A friend of mine gave me an idea- she suggested a facetime story session with a family member every night!

We have been calling my daughter’s 12-year-old cousin each night at 5pm and it has been such a wonderful way to engage my prep student in her reader again! My daughter reads her reader and then at the end, they have a little chat about their day. It has been a wonderful daily event that my daughter and her cousin look forward to every night. I wanted to share this with our parent community in case anyone was finding it challenging with nighttime readers.

CALMING STRATEGIES

Here is a poster I put up this week in my house for my children. It is a visual reminder of some of the things we can do to feel grounded and reset.

I truly take my hat off to all of our parents at St Joseph’s! You are all doing such an incredible job!
