LIGHTHOUSE 'BALANCE' PROGRAM

Harmony Fenoughty, Coordinator Senior School Innovation

This term we have created the first Aberfoyle Park High School crew to take part in the Lighthouse ‘Balance’ program. Beginning week 2 this term, eight of our students started the Lighthouse Youth Project ‘Balance’ program.

This is a new program offered at school which allows students to work with professional bike riders to gain confidence, take risks, and achieve success in BMX bike riding. The students took to the bikes really well in the first session. They showed motivation, support for each other, and respect for the mentors. In the second session students headed to the Hallett Cove BMX track tackling the course and working to improve their skills. We are already seeing students become more confident in taking risks with their riding, accepting tips and feedback from mentors, and even challenging the professional riders in some skills.

Students have taken part in activities including bike building, box turns, bunny hops and BMX limbo. Students involved are working towards achieving 10 Stage 1 SACE credits taking part in the program and reflecting on their success and challenges.

I look forward to seeing the crew continue to develop, work together and achieve success throughout the program.
