DRAMA PRODUCTION

Daniel Lynch, Teacher

On Thursday 2 September at the Domain Theatre, SACE Drama students performed their self-devised works in the style of Verbatim Theatre, which involves the transformation of real-life interviews, research and testimony into new dramatic works, to an audience of more than 70 people.

Students formed their own theatre companies and were given complete independence to create their own works. It was thrilling to see each company wrestle with the dramatic process as they conducted research and interviews, layered this text into dramatic action, created unique characters and narratives, designed sets, costumes, lighting, multimedia and sound, and refined their plays with the energising involvement of Paulo Castro from the State Theatre - all with the added challenge of performing in an external venue. The audience were treated to a gripping murder mystery inspired by the intriguing conspiracy theories of the royal family, a satire of humanity's desire to reckon with the supernatural and an emotional reaction to the threat of pandemic and catastrophe.

For Stage 2 students, this task is externally assessed by the SACE Board and for Stage 1 students it forms 40% of their semester grade.

Congratulations to the students who committed themselves to countless hours of preparation!
