As we continue to respond to the advice from both NSW Health and the NSW Government, I acknowledge that we are truly in unprecedented times and I thank you for your continued patience as we continue to navigate the weeks ahead. Whilst this term has been demanding on all fronts, it has also shown us that the students here at Brigidine are focused and agile enough to respond to new ways of learning. Similarly, flexibility in thinking and agility in decision making has shown that we have been able to think outside the box allowing the busyness of school life to continue despite the restrictions. Such things as the HSC final assessment block, Year 11 Exams, student leadership interviews, our subject selection process, Pastoral Care lessons, study skills sessions and online assessments have proved successful during this time of remote learning.
However, as the period of uncertainty continues, youth mental health has been under the spotlight with mental health organisations in Australia noticing an increase in people accessing their services. Our teachers have responded with a “Zoom free” Wednesday to ensure that girls have time to catch up on any work and to take care of their physical health. Nevertheless, the professionals continue to highlight the importance of maintaining a routine during this time as a key coping mechanism. Similarly, daily exercise and a good sleep routine should be part of your daughter’s routine at this time. This regularity as well as maintaining social connections are important coping strategies to lower depression and anxiety.
