Principal's Report

Michelle Mackenlay

It was not the news we were hoping for this week, when the Premier announced that Term 3 will continue remotely for schools and further announcements for the return to school will be made on the 23rd  of September in the first week of the school holidays. This further challenges our students, their families and our staff in an already stressful Term 3.

We are hearing an increasing level of anxiety within our community with some of our students and also their parents due to the extended periods of Lockdown. I encourage families to take care of themselves, this may mean by taking breaks from added stresses caused by remote learning. We will continue to provide engaging lessons and activities for students and opportunities for students to connect with their teachers and others through Webex class meetings. However, we do understand that all families and students are different, and it is ok if you are unable to complete all of the set tasks. My advice is to do what your family can manage, reach out to your child's teacher through Compass and they may be able to assist or modify tasks or plans that suit your child and family.

We will continue to offer Wellbeing Wednesdays as a bit of a relief for our students and families.  On-site supervision is offered again to families that meet the Department of Education's  criteria under Authorised Workers or Vulnerable Students. A Compass message was sent earlier this week with details.

Please also have a look at the useful tips below from Triple P, an evidence based positive parenting program.

Unfortunately, this new announcement,  will again affect some of our planned school activities. We will adapt as many as we can, but unfortunately, due to community restrictions and availability of re-booking events, some will unavoidably have to be cancelled. We will update you accordingly via Compass.

Father's Day

We were unable to have our school Father's Day picnic today, but would still like to wish everyone a happy Father's Day for this Sunday. If you have any photos of your families celebrating this Sunday, please email them to the school at clyde.ps@education.vic.gov.auand we will include some of the photos in the next newsletter edition.

Book Week Parade

Our Book Week Parade will be a virtual experience on Friday 10th September,  where students are encouraged to dress up as their favourite book character and attend their Webex on this day for a virtual class parade. They may also like to bring a copy of their favourite book to share. There will be a Seesaw activity posted on this day asking for students / families to share a picture of their book week costume. These will be included in a video for families to view the following week. Please note: by uploading a video or photo response for this task you are giving permission for the image(s) to be downloaded. Your images may be included in a video to be shared via Seesaw with the school community.

Footy Day Celebrations

Every year Clyde PS celebrate the end of term with a Footy Day Parade. We will continue this again, but it will be modified for the remote environment.  Wednesday 15th of September will be our Virtual Footy Day for the whole school. Students can dress in their team colours (AFL, soccer, rugby, netball, basketball etc) for the day. There will be lots of fun sport/team related activities, as this will take the place of Wellbeing Wednesday in the last week of term. More detailed information about this day will be sent to families via Compass next week.
