Remote Learning

It has been a most unusual term, but I am glad to say we got there together. Our staff have displayed remarkable flexibility and creativity and our families have shown us amazing support. We are looking forward to face to face teaching as I am sure most of our families are as well.

Some Local Government Areas that were deemed low risk returned to operating under level 3 restrictions this week but unfortunately, we were required to continue with learning from home for at least another week as there were still COVID cases. This may change during the holidays but if it doesn’t, we will continue communicating with our families about how learning will look in term 4.

While our students have been learning from home our GA’s have been busy beautifying the school for the return of students and staff. The school looks so beautiful at this time of year with the blossoming trees and the green grass however the additional time created by COVID has enabled  Rolf Lappins to work on the garden entry to the Primary Department as well as keeping the grass in check after the rain!  Doug has been caring for our agriculture plot and animals, as well as pruning the rose bushes on the school site ready for spring.  Thank you to Rolf and Doug for the work they put in to making our school grounds look fantastic. I know our students and staff will take notice of these when they return.

There has also been approval for some extensive landscaping to take place between the courts and the demountable classrooms. This will make a huge difference for our primary students as the mud and dirt make play in that area difficult. The bus shed has been moved from near the primary demountable as well and this area will also be incorporated into the plan.

R U OK Day

Last week to mark RU OK day Primary students enjoyed a yellow themed disco. This was thoroughly enjoyed by many families and our teachers enjoyed watching our students learn some new dances and master a few “oldies” I particularly enjoyed seeing younger siblings dancing along as well. It was a lot of fun.

Thank you, Gay Somerville our Student Support Officer, who I interviewed last week to support RU OK day. Gay has created a K-6 and a 7-12 Google classroom to support all students and their families remotely during this period. The quickest way to access these places is through the website which has shortcuts embedded as well as links to other places of support.

Stage 1

Stage 1 had some extension work they were asked to complete, where they had to research a Paralympian and I am pleased to share a few examples that Mrs Schaefer has emailed through to me last week.
