From the Acting Principal

Week 10

Parents and Carers,

This week's weather has been very fickle and interfered with Year 1 and 2’s excursion on Monday to visit places in the local community. However, the children handled the change of plans well. They were excited when Lisa from Bunnings could come to the school, and they could still do their painting and potting activity.

The class teachers have been busily planning next term’s units of work with the common theme of Sustainability. The Prep’s focus will be ‘Our Sustainable World’, and the Year 1/2s, ‘Tiptoe Through The World.’ They have combined these themes and designed a unit of work called ‘A Bug’s Life’ and will do lots of work together. The 3/4s theme is ‘Flushed Away’ while the 5/6 ‘s is ‘Think Global Act Local.’

Our Leader of Learning and Teaching, Dina Rubini, ran several short training sessions this week for prospective parent classroom helpers on Thursday and Friday. It was an excellent chance for parents to come in and get an outline of their important responsibilities when volunteering in the classrooms.

The school-based uniform shop and CDF pay application are now closed. However, the RH Uniform online order portal will open on Monday, 17th April (the second week of the school holidays). We will include an information flyer with all the details of the new ordering process in next week's newsletter.

As we enter the last week of Term One and head into the holidays, I want to remind families that we will finish at 1.00 pm on Thursday 6th, April. Term Two will begin for the students on Wednesday, 26th April, after the ANZAC day public holiday. For those families not travelling, you are warmly welcome to attend one of the many Easter celebrations at the OLHC Eltham and SFX Montmorency parish churches.

In staffing news, we farewell Mrs Suzie Collins at the end of the term. She has been working in the library, assisting with the new electronic sign and publishing weekly newsletters for us. Mrs Angela Vines will return to OLHC and take over Suzie’s responsibilities from the beginning of next term. We thank Suzie for her energy, enthusiasm and expertise at the school. She has only been with us for a short time, but she will be missed by the staff and students.

In other news, Liz Cox will take some leave from mid-next week and will be back with us in the middle of May. Angela Vines and Loretta Marazzato will be combining to cover the office duties each week in her absence. Mrs Andrea Chesterman, our Italian Teacher, will take some leave and head to Italy for the first six weeks of next term. We know she will return ready to share her experience of Italian culture with all the students. A couple of other teachers will take some Long Service Leave attached to the holiday break. I will let the families of those specific classes know the arrangements for the leave via email.

As always, please take a moment to read about all the other exciting things happening at OLHC in the different areas of this newsletter.

We will publish our last newsletter for the term on Thursday next week.

Regards,

Mark
