Interschool and Community Sports

On Friday April 28, we had our first Interschool competition between St. Joseph’s, Malvern.  The visitors came to our school where we were able to show off our new facilities and weren’t they impressed.

Our Netballers had Ms. Carnovale step in for the week as Mrs. Burns was away.  They were split into 2 teams and played a game each against a strong St. Joseph’s outfit.  We showed our skills throughout the two games and whilst we don’t take scores, everyone knows the result.  We would like to thank Ms. Carnovale for her time in supporting and helping us.

“It was something I’ve always wanted to do and I thought, here is my opportunity" – Ms. Carnovale.

Our Footballers went down to JL Murphy Reserve.  They got off to a great start kicking goals on goals in the first quarter.  This trend continued for the next three quarters and the attitude towards the game was terrific.  Whilst we don’t take scores, everyone knows the result.

“It was great to see so many new faces in the Galilee uniform and some people playing their first game of footy ever! That’s what I loved about today” - Mr. Greene

The remaining students were split into 4 groups and made their way to either St. Vincent’s Lawn Bowls or Tennis club, Albert Park Golf Course or Dance World.  These groups will participate in these sports for 2 weeks and then rotate round till they complete all sports. A great opportunity to learn different sports and skills during this Term.

Dendy Cross Country Report

Last Friday 48 students went to Bald Hill Park to participate in the Dendy Cross Country.  With Mr. Pensini and Jack in charge they left school bright and early to beat the morning traffic.  The day ran smoothly both weather wise and time wise for the students.

We had everyone finish, fantastic results and as a school we came 7th overall which is a wonderful effort.

Congratulations to Ella B (9/10 girls) and Zac U(12/13 boys) who will be attending Beachside in a few weeks for their individual results of 4th and 5th in their age groups.

We also had Abigail U finish 17th in the 9/10 girls, Hudson M finish 12th in the 9/10 boys, Harry M 15th in the 11 year old boys, Marni F 18th, Harriet M 20th in the 12/13 girls and Georgio B 12th, Archie I 14th and Ethan C 20th in the 12/13 boys.

A massive thanks to Mr. Pensini, Jack and the parents that come along to help and support.

School Bowlers

In great weather School Bowlers Lian, Xavier and Querey from Galilee Regional Primary School exceeded all expectations taking out the Group 1 Tournament Trophy.

With minimal coaching and against teams comprising their teacher, experienced barefoot bowler Mr Webster, they won with four shots up on one end!

Congratulations to runners up Flynn, Henry, and Aston.  Grace, Clodagh, Tristan, Morgan and Luke acquitted themselves well.  Coached by Albert Park Club members including Mr Max Tritton pictured, it was overheard “this is better than footy”.
