Year 3 Classroom News

Year 3 have had a busy first term in Galilee including making their First Reconciliation, an excursion to CERES, cross country and creating Harmony gardens.

Excursion to CERES

In March the students went on an excursion to CERES to learn about the Aboriginal culture.  Our Inquiry topic for term 1 was Harmony and the students learned about the  land “then and now”.

They identified and tasted ‘bush tucker’ such as the salt bush and lemon myrtle. They found the tastes of traditional Wurundjeri bush tucker; quite interesting both good and bad, bitter, sweet, tart and everything in between!!

The Year 3 students were blessed to have Tully, a proud Noongar man (same mob as St Kilda great Nicky Winmar) run their Wurundjeri art activity using various colours of Ochre.

Cross Country

The children also participated in cross country in March and they had a great time. The students gave it their best!

A special congratulations goes to Sophie J, and Josiah H on winning the under eight race.

Congratulations to Samuel S and Ella B, who came in first, Joshua T, and Lara T who came second and Maxwell G (Year 4) and Rosie R who came in third in the under nines race.

We were blessed with a lovely day and there was great enthusiasm from all involved!

Reconciliation

The children received their First Reconciliation in Term 1.

Sue Kidd taught the children alongside their teachers about saying sorry through songs, stories and prayers. The children participated in a Reconciliation Reflection day.  This involved visiting the church to learn about The Stations of The Cross. Classroom activities included preparation of the sacrament such as writing a sorry prayer, acting out The Lost Sheep and completing Reconciliation art.

Harmony Gardens

The children designed and constructed harmony gardens in Inquiry. Some students included native Australian plants, an ochre area, a language/communication area, a prayer space and reconciliation trees. They were amazing!
