Vocational Major Update
Dear Parents and Carers,
Our Year 11 students have had a great week full of off site activities to consolidate their learning. It kicked off with VM camp at Merricks Lodge. Students participated in a range of activities from building a catapult to facing their fear of heights and putting trust in their classmates to keep them from falling.
Year 11 students then had the opportunity to visit the Melbourne Grand Prix as part of their WRS studies. Students investigated future careers and the OH&S issues. They had the opportunity to interview a number of event staff and gain a perspective about what is involved in this industry
Finally, on Monday we had a visit from Man Cave and Flourish Girl. These programs, specifically for high school-aged, are designed to give students the language, permission, space and role modelling to explore and challenge the traditional scripts they have inherited and healthily engage with one another in a safe environment. It aims to empower students to become great people by providing them and their communities with impactful programs, role models and resources.
All students should now have found a work placement for a Wednesday or a Friday. Students who have not returned these forms will be required at school each Friday. During this time they will be allocated to classes and will have time to complete overdue work as well as meet with their mentor teacher who can assist them to find a work placement. Mentor teachers may help the students brainstorm where they might go as well as write a script to call a potential employer. They may also help them to look on the SWL portal for any opportunities that the school might have access to.
