Principal's Report

Dear parents,
Happy Easter
This term has been a refreshing start to the year with the most settled start to a school year we have had in several years. The teaching and learning program has been in full swing and the introduction of forest school in Middle Gully has been a welcome addition to our program. I would like to congratulate the students on such a great start to the year and we look forward to another great term after the easter break.
Macedon PS Trivia Night is back! – Save the date - Friday 26 May
The school council is planning a parent trivia night in term two for parents. This is the time to start pulling your team together, book in the babysitters in and planning your fancy dress.
We will have a night full of trivia, games and music led by the talented Bushy as trivia master and Blake on the decks.
Booking details and prices to be confirmed shortly, stay tuned.
Parent and Friends Fundraising Efforts
The parents and friends’ association (PFA) has several community building and fundraising activities planned for the 2023 year including the colour run, Easter Raffle, Mother’s Day stall, Winter Solstice, School student Disco, Father’s Day stall, the Fete and the Christmas Raffle.
We would like your input into where the funds should be spent this year. Please fill in the survey below to post your vote. We are going to set up a fundraising target thermometer in the foyer to track our progress toward our preferred project. The current fundraising priorities include.
- Connecting the Eco Learning Space in Middle Gully to Power – In shed in Middle Gully is utilised for a range of Landcare and Forest school activities. Connecting power to the shed would increase the functionality of the shed for science, Landcare, forest school and arts and craft activities for all students. Power would also support us to run events such as the Winter Solstice much more easily and would avoid us relying on generators on evenings like this.
- Laying an all-weather surface under the shade sail in front of Room 10 and 11. – The Room 10 and 11 shade sails would benefit greatly from an all-weather surface under them. The all-weather surface would act as a functional outdoor classroom space for all students and would greatly benefit all classrooms and the students in Room 9, 10 and 11.
Find the survey here, this will be open until Tuesday 25th April.
Contributing as a Volunteer
Please contact me if you’re able to support any of the events above with volunteer hours. The more support we get, the easier these important events are to run. If all families contributed a few volunteer hours to an event each year we would easily get things done.
Colour Run
The Parents and Friends Association has planned a colour run for the students for the final school day of the term, Thursday 6th of April for all students. The cost is $5 per child, with all profits going towards powering the Eco Shed at Middle Gully. Information on this event has been posted on XUNO and your approval and payment is required for your child to participate. Children are to wear casual clothes, no need to buy a new tshirt, light colours show the colours the best.
It is set to be a fun afternoon and we invite you to come and cheer your children on as they run around the oval to see out the term in a blur of colour! Mr O is setting up an amazing obstacle running course, while Mr B will be the DJ.
We will be acknowledging the Hindu Holi festival origins of the colour run in classrooms in the lead up to this event so students are aware that this is an element of a significant festival in Hindu culture.
Canteen Days
From next term we will be having the farm truck visit on Wednesday and Friday. You will still book on Flexischools https://flexischools.com.au/
Please remember that we finish at 2:30pm tomorrow afternoon for end of term, we also have a curriculum day on April the 24th and the Anzac Day public holiday on the 25th of April. The first day of term will be 26th of April.
I am wishing you all a safe a restful Easter break.
Kind regards and Sampai jumpa (until next time),
Matt
