What is the subject about

 

The study of English is central to the learning and development of all young Australians. It helps create confident communicators, imaginative thinkers and informed citizens. It is through the study of English that individuals learn to analyse, understand, communicate and build relationships with others and with the world around them.

Skills you will develop

  • read and analyse a wide variety of texts to find deeper meaning and create links between ourselves and the world around us
  • write using a range of text structures which support further skill development in Year 10 and beyond
  • develop oracy through discussions and verbal challenges that require listening, thinking and responding

Assessment

  • Monologue (oral presentation)      
  • Language Analysis
  • Text Analysis (essay)
  • Portfolio of various texts

Pathways

Studying English will develop your communication skills to ensure that you are competent in your chosen career. It will broaden your horizons both creatively and logically enabling a structured approach to planning, drafting and delivering communication verbally, in written form and through the appropriate technology.
