Textiles

Year 9

What is the subject about?

Students will develop an understanding of the use of the sewing machine, basic construction and enhancement techniques to make different textile projects including a tote bag and bucket hat. They will look at fashion design, elements used in textiles as well as fabric and fibre properties. Students get the opportunity to experiment with material manipulation techniques such as tie-dye, bleaching and embroidery. Students will develop life long skills by engaging in creative thinking, problem solving and working in a collaborative environment

 

Skills you will develop

  • Understand and apply the product design process.
  • Use textile materials, tools and processes to assemble your own design. 
  • Apply learnt knowledge of different fabrics and fibres.
  • A novice level over a range of different textile crafts.
  • Understand how a pattern is used to create textile products.
  • Safety knowledge and practices related to the Textiles Industry
