HUMANITIES ELECTIVE: Beyond Borders

Year 9

What is the subject about?

Time to get out of our bubble, to start looking beyond Australian borders and explore the world. Beyond Borders is a combined Humanities elective where students investigate and analyse global destinations. Through the lens of tourism, students will learn to better understand different tourist destination’s history and environments which inspire our interests in these locations. They will then analyse the impact of tourism, including businesses that have been established to capitalise on the human desire to see the world.

“In Beyond Borders you learn about different countries, cultures and the importance of tourism. It has helped me understand the sustainability of a place which then help me reflect on my actions. You get to do a lot of research about the countries you like and want to visit in the future which I have enjoyed.”

Skills you will develop

  • Analyse and historical sources to develop knowledge and understanding.
  • Analysing environmental systems and changes due to human action.
  • Explore the impact on tourism on economies.
  • Compare government and legal systems from Australia to another nation and how it may influence tourism

  • Destination inquiry task.
  • Impact of tourism analysis.
