Year 9 Overview 

The Year 9 Program has a wide range of interesting and student focused subjects aligned to the Victorian Curriculum. 

Each subject is designed to be engaging and gives each student the opportunity to build their skills, in line with our College value of GROWTH.   A major FOCUS of Year 9 is helping students to develop their agency,  teamwork and leadership. We help students build their independence, trust and collective responsibility, so that they have a focused and secure learning environment. This helps them build with positive mental health and strong growth in learning.

In Year 9 students have classes in the Core Curriculum areas which all students must undertake. Core subjects continue throughout the year. 

To offer targeted choice for students,  there are a number of Electives which allow students to build on their strengths, their interests or just get the chance to gain a new skill set and give it a try!  Electives operate for a semester (terms 1 and 2 or Terms 3 and 4).  Each elective and Core subject are outlined in this publication.

There are also two Pathway Electives which form part of our Pillars of Excellence. These run for the full year but are considered an elective. IMPACT for students who have special interest or talents in the Arts and SEED for students who have sports as a passion or special skills and are career considerations.

CORE SUBJECTS 

All Core Subjects have five sessions per week, except HAPE which has five per fortnight.

They run all year.

Elective structure 

Students have six electives over the year, each having 2.5 sessions per week.

An exception to the elective structure is when choosing IMPACT or SEED.  Because they run all year students have one less elective. Students who choose SEED are also not permitted to choose another HAPE elective. IMPACT students must choose another Arts or Technology elective.

Each student will have 30 sessions per week across all classes.   

NB: Elective Subjects are the beginning of considering specialization in Year 10 and Beyond.
