Principal's Report

Vermont Secondary College

WELCOME BACK

Welcome back to all students ready for Term Two which runs for 9 weeks and will conclude on Friday the 23rd of June. Term 3 will commence on Monday the 10th of July. I commend the students on how well they have settled into this school year and Term 2, particularly after the disjointed week last week. I look forward to the continued positive contribution you are making to the college both within the classroom and in the broader co-curricular program.

STATE SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Congratulations to the six students that made it through to the State Swimming Championships held on Friday the 28th of April and also to the students representing the school at the State Diving held on Monday the 1st of May. A huge thank you to the staff that attended the 2 events, greatly appreciated. Achieving this level is a fantastic achievement, and a full report can be read on the Sports page of this newsletter.

VSC MARCHING BAND AND VSC ANZAC ASSEMBLY

Congratulations to Vermont Secondary College music students who were involved in two ANZAC parades this year.

Firstly, they played at the Ringwood RSL commemoration ceremony on Sunday the 23rd of April followed by the annual ANZAC Day Parade in the city on the Tuesday. Both days the weather was with us, and the students played superbly.

At the Ringwood ceremony the band played at the rear of the march and proceeded along Maroondah Hwy. In addition, the band played the Australian and New Zealand national anthem at the base of the Ringwood clock tower for the official ceremony. For this march the band were superbly led by Sally Barkla.

Then on the Tuesday our talented marching band, led by Liz Clarke, again performed beautifully, marching and playing along the St Kilda Road route twice!

Thank you to our Student Leaders, Freya Sutanto and Kurt Ennis who deputised for Alex Lee (who was playing an instrument in this parade), for carrying the school banner along St. Kilda Road.

A huge thank you to Ben Muddyman for preparing the band for the two events over many months. Ben is currently on leave. Thank you to Sally Barkla and Liz Clarke for leading the students.

Thank you also to the many parents who were present at these events and supported our school and students on the day.

Finally, a big thank you to Khristian Mizzi, our Instrumental Music Coordinator, for attending both days and for the huge amount of work required around the logistics of these two events. Well done to all involved, you did the college proud! For a further report and photos see the Instrumental music section in this newsletter.
