Senior Girls Netball

On Wednesday the 10th of May, the senior netball side took off to the Ballarat Netball Centre, Llanberris Courts, to verse six other Ballarat schools. The girls started the day against SEDA College who had a very competitive and tall side. Mischa Burge, Kaitlyn Schneider, and Ellie Franc worked tirelessly in defence to try and stop the strong attack, but unfortunately the girls were defeated 22 to 5.

After the warmup of the first game, the girls were fired up and ready to take on Woodmans Hill. Mischa was relentless in defence and turned the ball over several times to the attacking side, where Reagan Fulford and Flick Stares were shooting goals from all around the goal ring. The girls defeated Woodmans Hill 20 to 10.

The third round saw the defending champions Ballarat High, take to the court against Beaufort, and they certainly lived up to their reputation. The Ballarat High girls were very skilled and won 35 to 1. Reagan was extremely persistent, despite the marginal score line, when both attacking and defending. Reagan’s enduring determination did not go unnoticed, as the Ballarat High coach went out of their way to share compliments on Reagan’s enormous efforts with Miss Dridan.

The following game was the most entertaining for the day, seeing many of the girls showcase their abilities and finally get into the groove of playing with one another. Reagan, Flick, Emma Thompson, and Jazz Tiley all worked well together in attack – leading each centre pass and turnover to success. Siena Grant stuck tightly to her player and helped Mischa in defence create many turnovers. Beaufort Secondary College defeated Mount Clear 17 to 12.

Daylesford Secondary College was Beaufort’s fifth opponent for the day, and height was to their advantage. Beaufort lost 23 to 11 but the game saw the beginning of Tyla Armeni’s wing defence career. Tyla was able to keep her opponent quiet and even take a few intercepts. This game was also the beginning of Jayda Simpson’s goal shooting career, where she made many advantageous leads and converted one of those to a goal.

The final game of the day was against Phoenix Secondary College, who were very competitive. Flick, Reagan, and Jazz all continued their attack on the ball but unfortunately the girls were defeated by 15 goals.

Best on for the day went to Reagan Fulford, second best to Flick Stares and third best to Mischa Burge. An honourable mention to Jayda Simpson for her first attempt in goals and scoring two goals!

Well done to all the girls on conducting themselves in such a respectful way throughout the day and giving different positions a go!
