Welcome to Term 2 of Auslan!

For Term 2 start-up we have been doing a little bit of revision of Term 1 topics including: basic greetings, colours, fruits, and feelings. Students are doing well remembering a lot of the signs we have already learned. Keep practising and revising our Auslan topics and signs from Term 1!!

This week:

Grade Preps have been learning some new signs for farm animals.

We are practising the farm animal signs through the song: "Old MacDonald Had a Farm!" and making a mini book with Farm Animals to sign.

We are doing some drama activities to practise our farm animal signs and acting out the farm animals that Mrs R or a class mate is signing! The new signs we are learning about the farm include: farm, animal, farmer, tractor, cow, sheep, lamb, duck, bull, pig, horse, dog, cat, donkey, mouse, goat, rooster, chicken, rabbit, goose, frog, and fish.

See if your child can show you some of the signs they are learning!

Grades 1-6 are learning about deaf culture within the deaf community.  Classes are creating posters to educate others in our school community about different behaviours, attitudes and the way the deaf community interact with one another.

Mrs Riordan.

Sandhurst Division Cross Country

Congratulations to all of our students who represented the school at the Sandhurst Division Cross Country Championships yesterday. Over 2500 students from 65 schools across the region converged on the Bendigo Racecourse for this annual event. Recent rain had made the track particularly challenging this year and it was great to see our boys and girls pushing themselves to their limits. They should ALL be proud of their efforts.

The highlight of the day was the performances of Charlie F (11 Years) and Jed H (9 Years) who finished 1st in their respective elite ‘Blue Group’ race. Both of these races had over 150 competitors. Charlie will now go on to represent the school at the Regional Cross Country Championships in St Arnaud on Tuesday the 6th of June (note - only runners from the 10 to 12 Years BLUE Category get to compete at Region). We wish him all the best.

Special mention to the following students:

Isabella J – 4th in the 9 Years Girls BLUE event.

Lottie Mc – 5th in the 9 Years Girls BLUE event.

Taj W – 18th in the 10 Years Boys BLUE event.

Will Mc – 19th in the 12 Years Boys BLUE event.

Alana B – 19th in the 12 Years Girls BLUE event.

Tessa W – 2nd in the 12 Years Girls RED event.

Emma Mc – 14th in the 12 Years Girls RED event.

A huge thanks to Billsy Maher for helping me and the Bendigo Primary Schools P.E Committee run the day.
