'Creating Futures Together'
On Wednesday, March 29th, Student Leaders and SRC members went to the GRIP Student Leadership Conference at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. Once there, the team of leadership specialists taught us about the many ways that we as leaders can have a beneficial impact on our school. We learned how to make our school and events more inclusive and fun, whilst also getting our messages across.
One thing that all the representatives from our school enjoyed was the Ideas for Bringing Assemblies Alive session, where we learned the ability to make assemblies more interesting and productive, whether whole-school, year level, or other. We also learned that working with the Year 7 cohort in the first few months will impact them positively for the rest of their time at Wheelers Hill Secondary. The leaders also discovered how to replace conflict with unity with more empathy and positivity.
Thank you to Mr. Gill for organising, and Mr. Molan for coming along and learning with us. The leaders will have a workshop and meeting next term to discuss what they learned and how to implement it during school.

Interview with Madison Kleinman Our 2023 Arts Captains, Chloe, and Hannah, recently interviewed Madison Kleinman, the designer for the school diary's front cover. Here’s what Madison, from Year 10 and VCD Year 11 advanced standing had to say about the design:
Why did you want to create a piece for the student diary?
Well, originally, I created the artwork for The Hill Magazine, I wanted to create something because I thought it would be fun, even if my design didn't get chosen, so you can imagine my surprise when I saw it on the planners instead of the magazines.
Why did you want to display WHSC Bunjil Center on our diary's
I wanted to display the WHSC Bunjil Center on the planners because it's one of the places that everyone in school knows about, it also was a unique building to draw. The Bunjil Center is also the place that holds all of the school's special events such as awards nights and productions.
How did you create this piece? What additional resources and techniques did you use?
I took photos of different angles of the Bunjil Center and then decided that on the one that looked the best. To create this drawing, I used Procreate on my iPad.
How does it make you feel seeing your work on the student diary?
When I first saw my artwork on the student diaries, I couldn't believe it. Now, when I see the student planners, I feel a sense of achievement.
What other pieces have you created or are proud of?
For as long as I can remember I've always loved drawing and have created multiple pieces of art that I've been proud of.
What advice do you have for students who want to create artwork pieces?
Practice and passion is key to improving your art.
Dear WHSC Staff and Students,
I am writing to you today to share the Student Representative Council’s (SRC) vision for Wheelers Hill Secondary College (WHSC). As a member of SRC I have the pleasure of working with an excellent team of individuals who are dedicated to making our school a better place. The WHSC SRC is responsible for representing the student body in matters concerning school policies, feedback, fundraising, strengthening the community, and creating a better environment for our students and staff.
We are always looking for ways to improve our school and ensure that every student's voice is heard. One of the most significant contributions of the SRC is our involvement in school policies. We will actively engage with the school administration and staff to provide feedback on current policies and suggest new ones that better serve our student body. Our efforts will lead to positive changes in school policies that will enhance the overall learning experience at WHSC.
Additionally, the SRC values feedback from the student body and we regularly seek input on how we can improve our efforts. We are always available to listen to concerns and suggestions and work diligently to ensure that your voices are heard. We also take pride in their fundraising efforts, which are aimed at supporting school programs and initiatives that benefit students. We will work tirelessly to organize and execute fundraisers that bring the WHSC community together while generating the necessary funds to support important school projects. Furthermore, the SRC is dedicated to strengthening the WHSC community. They regularly organize events that promote inclusivity, cultural awareness, and school spirit, which help to foster a positive learning environment for everyone.
In conclusion, the SRC at WHSC is an exceptional group of individuals who are committed to making our school a better place. Our efforts in school policies, feedback, fundraising, community building, and creating a better environment for students and staff are commendable and I am grateful to be a part of this hard work and dedication.
