Girls Footy Gala Day

Two weeks ago, on the 28th of April 16, 20 year 5\6 girls headed off to Quambee Reserve to participate in the SSV’s Girls Footy Gala Day. We were very fortunate to meet one of AFLW’s stars, Keeley Sherra from Carlton, and listen to other guest speaker's inspiring stories of their journey to the big time. Playing in the Gala day, there were 20 teams spread across 5 pools. In our first game, we competed against Tintern Vale, the final score was 21 to 1 and we recorded our first win. The second game was even better, as we won with a tally of 62 points to 0, against Sacred Heart. The last game in our pool was against Ringwood Heights, in which we scored 72 points to our opponent 0. In these games, we stood our ground, and our team’s cooperation showed up on the scoreboard. Because we had won all our games we had made it to the first final. This was against Dorset Primary. In this, we scored 16 points to 2. We laid pretty decent tackles and stayed on our players. This good work got us into the grand final! We played a hard and long game against Warranwood, but sadly lost in the end with 3 points to 12. Overall, our girls played very well; we are all proud of our efforts this year. We would like to thank Scott Edgcumbe, Daniel Bullen and Mrs Carbone for coaching us and the other parents for taking us to the game while supporting us on the field!

HOUSE CROSS-COUNTRY: It was typical Melbourne weather yesterday: gloomy skies, rain, sun and more rain for our annual House Cross Country at Domeney Reserve. The track was definitely one of the hardest due to the amount of rain we have had in the last couple of days but that didn’t stop students' enthusiasm. It was lovely to see students in their house colours supporting and encouraging each other and having lots of fun too.

Students in year three to year six ran against each other in their age groups – 12/13 year old boys and girls, 11 year old boys and girls and 9/10 year old boys and girls. The course started and finished on the oval and took students around a very challenging and extremely muddy loop in the 100 Acres. 12/13 year olds and 11 year olds ran 3km (2 loops of Domeney) while 9/10 year olds ran 2km (1 loop of Domeney).

House Cross Country is held each year as a selection process for District Cross Country, with the top 10 place getters representing our school at District level. Congratulations to all of the top 10 place getters in each age group.

I am so proud of all our students for their exceptional performances. Cross Country running is very difficult, and there were a number of wonderful examples of students displaying our school values - kindness, integrity, excellence and respect.

Congratulations to GRANT house, who recorded the most points on the day and declared our house winners for 2023.

The day was a huge success, and I would like to thank the house captains who arrived early to help set up the oval. They we excellent leaders and continue to show dedication and enthusiasm.

I would also like to thank my colleagues for their ongoing support and, lastly, to all our wonderful parent community and helpers who assisted on the day as walkers, duties at the finish line or as marshals on checkpoints around Domeney. These events cannot occur without our parent helpers, so I appreciate your support. Thank you!

The Ringwood District Cross Country is on Tuesday 23th May at Quambee Reserve from 12:30pm. The P.O.P.S Cross Country team will train next Tuesday at lunchtime and next Friday morning at 8:30am on the running track. More details will come.
