From the Principal

Cross Country

Yesterday, Mrs Carbone, our dedicated staff and supportive parents, did an excellent job organising the House Cross Country at Domeney Reserve. Despite the unpredictable weather, the year 3-6 students showed true determination and ran their hearts out. According to reports, it was an outstanding event where all students pushed themselves to do their best. Congratulations to every student who proudly represented their house colours. We are pleased to announce the overall winners were Grant House. Finally, let's give a big round of applause to the 60 students who have earned the honour of representing our school at the upcoming District Cross Country. Well done, everyone!

Education Week 14- 20 May

Education Week is an excellent time to reflect on the importance of education in our society. Our children are so fortunate that they have a fundamental right to an education in Australia.

Education helps our young and (older!) people develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for personal growth and success in life.

Education Week also reminds us of our staff's hard work and dedication, and who work tirelessly to ensure our students receive a quality education. I hope that whilst we celebrate Education Week, we promote to everyone the value of learning and pursuing your interests and passions.

For Education Week's 'Active Learners: Move, Make, Motivate' theme, we have planned Open Night activities. From 5:30-6:40 pm, students and families can visit classrooms for hands-on literacy, numeracy, and movement activities. Mrs Carbone and Ms Sarah will lead movement activities in the Arts Centre, while Mrs Bian will host a Mandarin writing activity in the Art room. At 6:50 pm, the School Choir will perform in the Arts Centre performance space to conclude the evening. We encourage families to talk to prospective parents and attend my guided school tour with our school captains at 6 pm from the School Office.

Mother's/ Special Person Activities

I'm excited to witness the celebration of all the wonderful POPS mums and special people tomorrow morning at breakfast. It's always heartwarming to see children expressing gratitude and affection towards the special women in their lives.

To make sure the day is extra special, parents should remember to equip their children with money and a bag to store the presents they will purchase from the Mother's Day stall.

Let's make this Mother's Day memorable and show our POPS mums and special people how much they are loved and appreciated!

Illness

As we approach the cold and flu season, we respectfully urge parents to assess their child's health before sending them to school, mainly if they display symptoms of being unwell. This is essential to safeguard the health and welfare of all students and staff at POPS, including those who may be immunocompromised. Your cooperation and understanding are greatly appreciated.

The current DET advice regarding COVID-19 is that students with a positive result should isolate for 5 days until their symptoms have resolved. Parents can contact their child's teacher for learning materials to support their learning. Please contact bronwyn.garrity@education.vic.gov.au if you have any questions.

We encourage everyone to take a moment and enjoy reading some year 1/2 'ouch' stories contributions. Please visit the From the Classroom page in this week's newsletter to read them.

Have a great week,

Ms Garrity (Acting Principal)
