Visual Arts

Semester 1 Overvie

Our focus this semester is ‘Respond and Interpret’, which involves students learning about the different purposes of Art, and how Art can be an outlet for expressing feelings and ideas.  This has also involved exploring the many purposes for Art, including gift-making, decoration and recreation, and for practical uses.

This semester we collaborated to make a display in the Art room using self-portraits. We also made rabbits using a variety of recycled materials. We have been learning about mixed media in Art, and how we can use multiple processes and materials in one piece of Artwork.

This term, students made Anzac poppies using tissue paper or felt materials. We have been looking at Australian Wildlife prints by the artist Pete Cromer, who uses bright colours and simple shapes to bring kangaroos, koalas, cockatoos and many other animals to life!

Students have had opportunities to explore the Art elements in each activity, particularly colour, shape and texture, as they are encouraged to learn through play and experimentation with their chosen mediums.

In the coming weeks, students will design and construct lanterns, which will be used in our celebration of the Winter Solstice at the end of Term 2.
