Beginning of Term 2.
The Foundation and Early Primary team have had a great start to the year, getting familiar with the school routines and daily procedures. Students have been exploring our school values of being a learner, showing respect and being safe.
Curriculum: In Foundation and Early Primary, we have been engaging in learning activities focusing on the following areas of the curriculum:nMaths, English, Geography, Personal and Social and Play to Learn. Students have enjoyed learning about shapes and their characteristics, discovering these through sensory and fine motor play.
We have begun learning about numbers and place-value and have started exploring sequences of time. Students have been using sensory exploration as a way of connecting with numbers, shapes and time.
We have begun our geography unit this term, focusing on weather and seasons. Students are experiencing changes in weather and establishing a connection with the seasons.
Easter celebrations: At the end of Term 1 we had our Easter celebrations. It was great to see students engaged and participating in the Easter hat parade. Students worked together to find the easter eggs during the Easter Egg hunt and had a great visit from the Easter Bunny!
Play to Learn: Students in Foundation and Early Primary began their Play to Learn program which encourages the use of play and sharing in a structured environment. The themes this term was ‘Teddy Bear’s picnic’, Play shops and dress ups. It’s been great to see students beginning the foundation skills of playing alongside their peers and using their communication devices to take turns and share.
ANZAC Day: Early Primary students began learning about ANZAC day in classrooms through different activities such as books, songs, sensory activities and cooking. We participated in a school service where we listened to the Last Post and had a minute silence.
