From The Principal
PRINCIPALS MESSAGE
Dear Parents and Carers,
Thank-you to everyone who came along to school last week for ‘Education Week’ activities. It was great to be able to share some time with you and your child, in classrooms and out, celebrating the theme ‘Active Learners; make, move and motivate.’
During ‘Education Week’ we also held a Prospective Parent Information Night that was well attended. If you know of any families interested in attending our school next year, please ask them to contact us as soon as possible so eligibility process can be completed.
A new bus
We are very excited to learn that we have been successful in being granted a second school bus through the support of the Variety Club. We are awaiting more details but hope to have it onsite and operational by the start of term three.
Staff Appointments
This week Mark Walsh joined our staff team, with Olivia Couch now on Family Leave. He is teaching Senior Secondary Blue. Welcome Mark to Hamlyn Views School. We are also finalising other appointments and have advertised for an additional Occupational Therapist and 2 day per week Education Support (Family Leave).
I'm also pleased to let you know that Michele Marcu, former Assistant Principal, has been appointed to the new Lollipop Creek Specialist School (interim name) in Wyndham. This is a wonderful acknowledgement of leadership skills and we wish her well has she prepares for the school’s opening in 2024.
Scholarship Success
Congratulations to Ashley Kalkandis and Samantha Simpkin who have been awarded Department of Education Inclusive Education Scholarships that will support them to complete a Master of Inclusive Education.
Happy studying Ash and Sam.
Education Support Day
On Tuesday 16th May we acknowledged our caring and dedicated Education Support staff with coffee, a special morning tea and lovely cards made by students. Our school is grateful for the contribution of these hard working staff members. Our school couldn’t operate without them!
Pupil Free Day Notice
The DE has approved a 5th Student Free day for schools in semester 2 that will be a Common Professional Practice Day for teachers. This is to support schools struggling to find sufficient casual replacement staff to provide teacher release for their twice-yearly professional practice day as per the Teaching Service Agreement. School Council has approved Friday 10th November, that will sit alongside our already planned Student Free Day (Assessment & Reporting) on Monday 13th November. Please put this new date in your diary. A reminder with have a Student Free Day on Monday 10th July (first day of term 3). Staff will be working at an off-site venue on that day.
May Conferences
May is a big month of conferences for members of the principal class team. We are fortunate to have attended – Leading with Strength, ACEL – Inclusion & Disability (Together we Build, Grow & Success) and this week Principal’s Association of Specialist Schools – Trailblazers (Now and in the Future). Conferences are always a valuable way to learn the latest ideas and programs in education and we look forward to sharing information with our teams. Thank-you to members of the school leadership team who willing manage the school in our absence.
