Positive Behaviours for Learning

At SFS, our school expectations are:

Respect

Responsibility and

Kindness

This week we have continued to focus on the expectation of RESPONSIBILITY in OUTDOOR SPACES and think before you act.

It has been pleasing to see that there has been a decrease in incidents involving minor aggression over the last few weeks since we have focused on this in our weekly PBL lessons.

Action for Happiness calendar

For the month of April, the Action for Happiness calendar is focusing on getting active. With the school holidays upon us and some lovely Autumn weather, it is the perfect time for families to be fit and active together and have some fun. Here is the calendar with some suggested activities.

I will continue to run the Seasons for Growth program for helping young children deal with experiences of loss and change.

I am currently running a group with some Year 5 and 6 children. In term 2, I will start working with a group of children in Years 3 and 4 and will look at running a group for students in Years 1 and 2 later in the year.

If this is something you think your child would benefit from or you would like some further information, please contact me at school.

Zones of Regulation

The Zones of Regulation is a program we have been using at school to help students to develop skills to help them regulate their emotions. “This curriculum provides us an easy way to think and talk about how we feel on the inside and sort these  feelings into four colored Zones, all of which are expected in life.  Once we understand our feelings and zones, we can learn to use tools/strategies to manage our different Zones in order to meet goals like doing schoolwork or other tasks, managing big feelings, and healthy relationships with others. The simple, common language and visual structure of The Zones of Regulation helps make the complex skill of regulation more concrete for learners and those who support them.” (zonesofregulation.com)

During the school holidays, you might want to spend some time checking in with your children and getting them to identify how they are feeling and which zone they might be in.

We are finding that many children are exhausted after a busy term full of learning and fun. The school holidays are a good time to spend time together over Easter and this can help us regulate our emotions.

I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you and your families a very happy Easter. I look forward to working with our students and families in Term 2.
