Term 2

Welcome back, I hope that everyone has had a safe and happy break. It has been great catching up with students and hearing all about their holidays. It sounds like there have been some amazing getaways and celebrations, including Eid, birthdays and even new additions to families.

This term in STEM we will be tackling a fresh new round of topics and trying to consolidate on some of the practical skills we explored last term, including predicting, questioning and drawing diagrams. Students will get the opportunity to apply these skills in hands on activities that promote engagement and teamwork. Check out the topics below to see what we are up to.

Prep: Rolling and Sliding: In this topic, students will explore different objects and how they move. They will identify features of shapes, including flat and round surfaces and investigate how these surfaces contribute to an object's ability to roll or slide.

Grade 1/2: Mini Beasts: This term, Grade 1/2 students will explore the world of living things. They will learn about differences in organisms from both the plant and animal kingdoms and attempt to identify features of organisms that help them move and live in their environment.

Grade 3: Fur and Feathers: In this topic, Grade 3 students will focus their attention on the biological Animal Kingdom. They will investigate unique features of different species and develop their ability to classify animals into groups according to these features.

Grade 4: May the Force be with you: This term, Grade 4 students will explore the Physical Science topic, Forces. They will work towards identifying different types of forces and investigate how these forces affect the movement of an object.

Grade 5: What's the Matter: In this topic, Grade 5 students will investigate the chemical states of matter. They will work towards classifying objects as solids, liquids or gases and develop their understanding of matter at a molecular level.

Grade 6: Let there be Light: This term, Grade 6 students will be exploring the Physical Science topic, Light. They will identify different light sources, investigate how light behaves under different conditions and develop their own experiments that involve measuring the brightness of light.
