PREP, GRADE 1 & 2:

In term 2, students in Prep, Grade 1 and 2 have been enjoying their introduction to music. So far, we have been exploring body percussion and using an instrument called a 'boomwhacker'. We have also progressed to learning about basic music notation including quarter notes, eighth notes and rests. Students have been excited to use various percussion instruments like drums, tambourines, bells, triangles, claves, maracas and shakers.

GRADES 3 & 4

Students in Grade 3 and 4 have explored some more advanced body percussion as well as completing complicated boomwhacker activities and play alongs. They are developing a good sense of time, rhythm and tempo, and are getting better at recognising notes. In week 3, they too had a refresher course on some basic music notation then demonstrated being able to read and play along with notation using a range of percussion instruments.

GRADES 5 & 6:

This term, students in Grade 5 & 6 have begun learning how to play a ukulele. We have revisited the anatomy of this instrument and had workshops on how to correctly hold and strum it. So far, students have learned 3 chords, and have participated in a workshop including video 'play-alongs' and even attempted a play-along song.
