Year 2 have been learning about writing stories with a beginning, middle and end. We looked at other Julia Donaldson stories, such as “The Stickman” and “A Squash and a Squeeze” to get an idea of how characters are developed and how settings are described. The students then created their own character, setting and a plot for their stories. 

We have been reading text features in fiction and non-fiction. The students had the opportunity to identify the beginning, middle and end of a narrative, and reciting three facts from non-fiction text. 

In Math, we have been learning about place value, specifically in consolidating our understanding of the tens. For example, 1 ten is 10, 2 tens is 20, 3 tens is 30, etc. The students had lots of fun learning about place value through various math games.
