Message From Our

Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

As the season of Lent draws to a close and we prepare for Holy Week and the Easter season, we reflect on the story of Jesus’ death and resurrection. Each unit has prepared a meaningful, prayerful reflection around the events of Holy Week and presented these to the school community. For Christians worldwide this is the most important event on the church’s calendar and the holiest of weeks when we recall and reflect on the events of the last week of Jesus’ life and the beautiful message of hope and new beginning that the Easter season brings.

Last night Emily Slaughter and I met with families who are beginning their preparation for the Sacraments of Initiation, Confirmation and First Communion. This is a special time for the children and their families and we ask for God’s blessing as they journey through the Steps in Faith program over the coming weeks.

Recently, Julie Murrell [SAC member] and I attended the annual CES Leadership dinner where James Merlino, former Minister of Education and Deputy Premier of Victoria was the keynote speaker.  Mr Merlino delivered the Monsignor Peter Jeffrey Oration, reminding us of the huge importance of education. “It is through education that we break out of the cycle of intergenerational poverty and disadvantage. It’s through education that we achieve our own individual aspirations and goals, and what we dream of doing. Most of those things will be achieved through education”. Listening to Mr Merlino, I was personally reminded of the responsibility and privilege it is to lead Sacred Heart School, where the importance of education is so valued by our school community. During the evening,  Bishop Shane MacKinlay officially launched the CES Ltd Strategic Plan 2023-2027.

It was very disappointing to find the heavy rain that occurred last week has caused flooding in our new build. We had hoped to commence using this space at the beginning of Term 2 but the damage caused has inevitably meant further delay to this. Everyone is working very hard to have this space up and going as soon as possible.

Learning Conversations took place last week. This has been an opportunity for your child to celebrate their learning and discuss with you and their teacher their successes and challenges and see where improvements can be made. Thank you to families and teachers for spending this valuable time together.

Thank you so much for the donations we received for the Easter raffle – we were overwhelmed by just how many donations we received and the great prizes that will be available.  Thank you, Sally Dickinson, for organising these and ensuring there are lots of prizes to be won.

We wish Karen Nihill all the best for her well earned Long Service Leave. We welcome Jacqui Butler, who will replace Karen’s Italian and music classes for the first three weeks of Term 2.

A reminder that tomorrow is the last day of term and all classes will be dismissed at 2.30pm.  Our Social Justice Leadership Team have organised an out of uniform day in support of CARITAS.  Easter PPR will take place during the day, where all the children join together in different groups to do an Easter activity.

All classes will resume on Monday, April 24th. The following day will be Anzac Day and a public holiday. On that day Sacred Heart School will be joining in the Tatura Anzac Parade. Anyone who would like to join us is asked to gather outside the Victory Hall in full school uniform at 10.30am ready for a 10.45am march.

Wishing you all a very safe and holy Easter and a happy family time together during the school holidays.
