Term 3 Week 2
Welcome to Term 3! There are many exciting reading events happening this term and I am very excited for all students to have fun and get involved.
Upcoming key dates:
- 16th-23rd August / Week 5 - Book Week / LNPS Pre-loved Book Sale / Author Visit
- 6th September / Week 7 – Last day to hand in your Premier’s Reading Challenge
BOOK WEEK
As Book Week fast approaches, I would like to remind students and families of this year’s theme: Reading is My Secret Power.
The annual LNPS Book Week Parade will be held in the Gym on Monday 19th August from 9:00am. As always we encourage all students to dress up as their favourite book characters for the parade to celebrate stories and the joy of reading. We would love to see some creative costumes that are connected to books or the theme Reading is My Secret Power.
The Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) suggests a list of resources which may help with costume ideas and inspiration:
- Your Local Families Magazine has some great ideas for costumes and they are home made.
- Costume box provides some commercial costume ideas.
- Ideas from May Gibbs books
- Tristan Bancks blog for Book Week ideas
PRE-LOVED BOOK SALE
In Book Week, the library will be a holding a book sale during its opening hours for both students and families. Any donations leading up to this week would be greatly appreciated. Please see the attachment for more information.
LIBRARY MAKEOVER
During the school holidays the library underwent a makeover, with the Picture Books and Series Boxes swapping places. This way we now have a spacious reading corner close to the borrowing desk, perfect for the younger students to use during class borrowing time. Both staff and children have expressed that they love these changes, as it makes the library a more purposeful and practical space for all classes to enjoy.
PREMIER’S READING CHALLENGE
Students have just over a month left to hand in their Premier's Reading Challenge sheets to the library. Students can continue checking the countdown to see how many days are left! Just a reminder that only one sheet is required to receive a reward.
BORROWING
Early Years – Reception & Years 1/2 children can borrow 2 books
Torrens – Years 3/4 children can borrow 4 books
Fisher – Years 5, 6 & 7 children can borrow 6 books
Parents – Can borrow up to 10 books
Books can be kept for a maximum of 2 weeks. All that is required is a library bag (for Reception, Year 1/2) and no overdue books. Students are encouraged to manage their own library bag and to borrow regularly.
RETURNING
Students can either place books they want to return in their classroom library box or directly into the green returns box in the library. Please note that lost or damaged books will incur a $10 payment. If the book is found however, the money will be refunded.
Please feel welcome to visit Tirkandi and say hello! If you have any questions regarding any library matters, please do not hesitate to ask me.
