Principal's Report

Mr Gerard Raven

Dear families,

As mentioned in today’s prayer, we finally get to celebrate the centenary of Brigidine education in Horsham this weekend. The brave Brigidine nuns first arrived in Horsham in 1920 and quickly established the Convent school (where St Michael and St John’s Primary school basketball court currently is). In 1968, they moved to our current site and renamed the school St Brigid’s College. The first ever principal of this new school was Sr Brigid Arthur (1968-69) and we are fortunate enough to have Sr Brigid visit us this Monday at our whole school assembly at 11am. Sr Brigid was this year awarded the Officer of the Order of Australia Award in the Queen’s Birthday Honours . Everyone is invited to the Assembly on Monday where Sr Brigid will address our community and we will recognise a number of student achievements. As I look around our wonderful school today, I understand that we really are standing on the shoulders of giants. You can read more about Sr Brigid Arthur here: https://www.themonthly.com.au/issue/2021/september/1630418400/jock-serong/sister-acts#mtr

It is wonderful to start a new term when I see the excitement of the students returning through the gates and we are hoping to continue to develop good routines with our students. You would have received two emails from me last week explaining the concept and purpose of the circuit breaker weekend in August. As we approach the mid-winter period with modelling predicting a peak of illness in late August, I ask your support in encouraging your child to wear a mask indoors at appropriate times. Please maintain the health protocols established earlier in the year and keep communication with the school open in cases of COVID.

Next week we begin the subject selection process for 2023 with a senior Pathways parent information evening on Wednesday 20 July at 7pm. The process of planning for 2023 begins now and families will know who to contact if you have any questions after attending these information sessions. Staffing and funding for 2023 depend on the selections that you and your child make, so it is important we can get these as accurate as possible. Please do not hesitate to contact reception for more advice on who to discuss your queries with. As always, if you would like to meet with me personally to discuss any concerns please do not hesitate to call the school or email me (principal@stbc.vic.edu.au) and I will arrange a meeting for us.

Stay Safe,

Gerard Raven
