Year Advisers Report Years 8, 10 & 12
The term closes with a flourish as Year 8 present their indigenous ingredient inspired dishes. Students delighted in serving culinary treats for their parents and teachers, in this, their latest Applied Learning activity.
Students have also had to now ponder their new quandary – what to choose for an elective subject in Years 9 and 10. This saw an excellent turnout for the Wednesday night information evening, with many a student leaving with even more options than they came in with. Sometimes it is hard when you are given so many exciting things to choose from.
Term 3 represents a change of speed for many classes, with new topics, new information and new assessments all coming to the table. Rest well Year 8 and I will see you next term!

I cannot believe that we are halfway through Year 10 already. Where has the time gone? Year 10 have certainly knuckled down and are working extremely hard in all their subjects. I am proud of their effort and conduct so far this year.
Year 10 have now selected their subjects for Stage 6. I know this is a stressful time as picking subjects for the next 2 years can be scary. I have had several conversations with students about their choices and look forward to seeing them strive for their personal best in their chosen courses.
On Tuesday 19 July (first day of Term 3) students will be completing their Year 10 into 11 Interviews. There will be no formal classes and students will only attend school for their allocated interview time. The goal for these interviews is to discuss with the allocated head teacher, the subjects they have selected for Stage 6 and to see if they are appropriate for their pattern of study. Students are advised to dress in interview clothing and to have a resume completed. Interview times have been sent out to students in the mail.
I have calculated how much longer we have until the end of Year 12. We have approximately: 9 Terms, 90 Weeks and 450 Days left. This time is going to go very quickly. I encourage Year 10 to start working and setting up a study routine if they haven’t already. This will help them to adjust to the rigor of senior school. One suggestion to get started is, to have a calendar visible and mark on where assessment tasks are due and how long they have to work on it. A second suggestion is to have a specific study/homework area away from distractions. Over the next 2 terms I will be giving some more study tips to try and help.
During the holidays it is Jump Back July. A month where we find ways to bounce back. Nelson Mandela once said,
“Do not judge me by my success, judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again”.
Over the next 2 years we are going to face some setbacks, and we need to learn how we bounce back from them. Below are some exercises to try over the break to start working on bouncing back.
Week 1
- Be willing to ask for help when you need it.
- Find something to look forward to today
- Get the basics right: eat well, exercise and go to bed on time.
- Pause breathe and feel your feet firmly on the ground.
- Shift your mood by doing something you really enjoy.
Week 2
- Reach out to someone you trust and share your feelings with them.
- Look for something positive in a difficult situation.
- Write your worries down and save then for a specific ‘worry time’.
- Challenge negative thoughts - find an alternative interpretation.
- Get outside and move to help clear your head.
Have a restful and enjoyable break. Stay safe and be kind to others and yourself. Remember
“Self-belief is the secret to success”.

Year 12 have had a great Term 2, the reality of only having one term left in their school journey has started to sink in. Year 12 are both excited and reserved about this chapter coming to an end.
Year 12 students had a fun time raising money for their formal with the annual teacher car wash. The students volunteered in their free periods and breaks. It was great to see them working together so well.
Mock trail exam practice has started to occur during sport time. This is a fantastic opportunity for the students to have a run through and perfect their exam strategy. It has been great to see so many students already sign up for this experience. Regarding Year 12 Trial Exams, students are encouraged to complete summaries over the holidays and start their preparation, so that if there are any concerns, they have time to book in with their teachers to clarify it.
A lot of students have been working hard on their major projects and teachers have expressed how proud thy are of the amazing work that is being produced. It is amazing to see students excel in their chosen area.
We are excited to for our final term together as a year next term. I wish everyone a safe and productive holiday!
