Year Advisers Report

Years 7, 9 & 11

Year 7 have had a fantastic first semester of high school. They have really grown in the last two terms. I am very proud of them and who they are becoming. We had many students participate in the Athletics Carnival and Swimming Carnival this term, and its clear we have athletes with some talent in our year group. Special mention to Daniel Gallo who broke his own personal record in high jump, and Layla Thompson-Tetevano who ran in the all ages relay. It seems that Year 7 have got into a good rhythm with high school, and its great to see many of them work cohesively as a team. I had the pleasure of watching their 'Videos for Change' in Applied Learning, where I got VIP tickets and front row seats to the premiere. The social issues they spoke about were confronting, however I am glad that they can speak so maturely about such serious issues within our society.

We had two of our students, Tycen Bedford and Tully Cain, speak to the Year 6 students who will be attending Henry Kendall next year. They spoke so well and very mature, and they represented our year group and school very well.

Enjoy your well-deserved rest Year 7, and get ready for a busy semester ahead.

Miss Chantel Sanki

Year 7 Adviser

It is hard to believe we are already halfway through the year! Year 9 have had a very busy term that has made it feel as if it was only yesterday that we were back from holidays. This term we have had two sport carnivals – Swimming and Athletics where many students participated and had lots of fun while enjoying the beautiful weather after so much rain.

Some students then went on to represent our school in the Zone Swimming, Athletics and Cross Country Carnivals – well done to all those students! We have also had Year 9 students compete in a variety of sporting events for both the school and the community. I love hearing all the stories of success and determination.

Term 2 however was not just about sport, Year 9 also completed their last Naplan that was done for the first time online, I was able to be there for all their tests and was very proud of how they conducted themselves and had a great attitude towards the tests. Term 2 is also a very busy term with assessments, and it was great to read so many positive reports on how well students are trying to always do their personal best. A reminder that if students do need help in understanding any work either in the classroom or homework to reach out to their teachers, who are always willing to help.

During Week 6, I was able to take 10 students to an altitude day run by yLead. This day provided the students with an opportunity to network with Year 9 students from other schools and listen to guest speakers, while learning how they can be confident leaders in our school and inspire themselves to achieve many things.

I would like to welcome our new students and their families to the school, Jayda Hotson, Eliza Sheehan and Fiona Sheng, they are all settling in very well.

As we finish this busy term, I remind Year 9 to take time out to relax and recharge these holidays, remembering to eat well, sleep, and take time away from the screen. Looking forward to another great two terms for 2022.

Year 9 Adviser

Congratulations to Year 11 on the completion of their second term of Stage 6. Time is flying by and now they only have one term left before they begin Year 12. Next term will be another big one for the year group and will be full of more opportunities to prepare for the HSC, particularly through the end of course exams.

At the end of Week 9, applications opened for the school leadership positions of School Captain, Vice Captains, and Prefects. This is a rigorous process which includes the following requirements:

  • Students must be in Year 11 and have been involved in leadership roles in the junior years, such as being on the SRC, house captains, on a student action team, sporting teams, or in their part-time jobs.
  • Applicants must obtain a form from Ms Fitzgerald or Mrs Kostalas
  • Eligible applicants will go through an interview process with Ms Fitzgerald, Ms Kostalas and Mr Backhouse
  • Chosen applicants will present a speech and then be elected

We are very excited by the leadership potential already shown in the year group and can’t wait to start the process and elect our new leadership team for 2023!

Each year assembly, student/s who have impressed in some way are awarded a Fitz’s Herald to recognise them for their achievements or general awesomeness. The following students have been awarded this semester:

  • Shayli Pal: volunteer work with CCDR’s Care4Coast for the homeless and disadvantaged, and disaster relief.
  • Micah Booth: impressive performance of his own composition at OnTrack.
  • Max Lewry: his responsible mediation to resolve a conflict between junior students and his calm nature.
  • Excel Egwutuoha and Kaylee Kaczmarczyk: their leadership and initiative as house captains at the athletics carnival.
  • Jonathan Mao: significant improvement in his application and maturity.
  • Luella Marcatili: mentoring and supporting her peers and having a calm and kind presence.
