Zone Athletics

There were 12 students from the Special Education Support Centre who qualified for the Zone Athletics Carnival at Mingara. At the time of writing this article, the events of the carnival were still happening, however, we are confident of some great results and that all had a great day out. We will update the results from this carnival in the next newsletter.

The students attending the carnival were:

Carter Bush, Deondre Hill, Joel Goncalves-Rose, Nate Wilden, Tiarne Bayliss, Curtis Chapman, Marlon Rosales, Kathryn Cameron, Joshua Gunn, Lateesha Mead, Charlotte Gott and Matthew Blakemore.

Well done to all!!

Mid-Winter Op Shop

During Term 2 Special Education students have been busy collecting, sorting and displaying pieces of clothing  that were kindly donated to sell at the Op Shop. This project not only enables students to take part in work related retail activities but also be involved in practical recycling. The Op Shop encourages students to think about what we buy and where unwanted clothing ends up.

Last Wednesday students showed great skill and teamwork in transforming the Taxi Zone into a marketplace with funky decorations and racks of preloved clothing. We were all set up ready to serve mainstream students and staff who visited during class and  rushed in at recess and lunch.

The mid-winter Op Shop was a great success as our takings amounted to $516.85. This money will be used as funds for the Special Education Kitchen Garden.

We would like to thank the people who donated such good quality clothing for sale. We also appreciate the assistance given to us by 3 mainstream Year 10 students, Amelia Stevens, Jone Coetzee and Luci Peck. They helped us serve many students who were paying by eftpos.

We hope to run another Op Shop in Term 4.
